Daytime photos. Some dimensions, and a tad more information about what you need would help us help you

Yes, I don't know where the patio (the gravel patch?) or the door.

NO STEPS at the doorway. You want your patio level when you exit the sliding doors. Then if necessary have steps to exit the patio area.

I wouldn't plan on steps at the patio door(s). Level the patio accordingly.

Hi all, I am sorry I didn't write a description or what I needed help with. I was working from my phone and Houzz App was limiting what I could put. So our house is on a raised foundation. I would like to have an outdoor dining area. My dilemma is that I dont know if I should put a landing of 36" followed by an 16" step (so about 4.5 feet) then put my dining table at ground level. The other option is to walk straight out and have a concrete pation with a table and put steps at the end. My dilemma is this, I have a kitchen door. My sliding glass door and kitchen door form an "L" shape. So technically I would need steps for both the sliding doors and the kitchen door. I'm attaching a Google Earth image of my house so you can see how my house is shaped. Previous owners had walkways going in both directions.

If you see the markings in yellow, this is where our steps would end if we did a 36" landing followed by a 16" step. Its 4' after the house. I just don't know if it makes sense to step soon after you exit the house. Ideally I would love to just walk right out, but because we are on a raised foundation, I need to have steps at some point. Does it make more sense to do landing then steps so that the dining table can be ground level with the yard? Or should I keep the level at house and later?

I think it's nicer if the patio is level with the lawn, not the house. It looks to me like you'll only need one step. I'd make it the width of the door. The house I grew up in had 2 steps from patio to the sliders. It was fine. When you walk through a doorway, you know you're making a transition, so a step makes sense. If you have small kids and a patio that's raised, that might be an issue. Sitting on the patio and watching small kids running around the yard is a lot easier than making sure they never fall off the patio, even if it's a very short drop.

We cannot visualize the exact area for the patio so difficult to say which would be the best option but I like the patio @Hallett& Co posted.

@HALLETT & Co. I do prefer it patio level but what I'm confused about are the steps to the yard. Because we have two exits essentially, the kitchen door and the sliding doors (which can open on both the right and left). So I'm not sure what side I'd put steps on or steps on all sides. That is the confusion.

I also like @HALLETT & Co. steps! Imagine you had a kitchen door where your couch is on the left... would you still put the steps to the right of the kitchen door? This means I would have to walk up the steps then turn left into the kitchen. Not sure if how I am explaining it makes sense. I must say, you have a beautiful patio!!!

I'm attaching this other picture so you can see an overview of my property. The area marked with in purple is the proposed patio area. If it is raised and level with the house, then would I put the steps in the area marked yellow. Would I put steps on both sides A and B (marked in red) or just B? The grass area is quite narrow and so, I would hope to have the steps parallel to the edge of the house to avoid going too much into the grass area.

Now that I am thinking about it. It might make more sense to do the steps right outside of the door so that the patio can be ground level and not take up too much of the "yard space."

We have another patio area on the pool side of the house that will be the same level as the house.
