I want to paint my basement magnolia homes 1905 Green. Will it create a ‘cozy den’ feel or feel more like dungeon? Thanks for any help!!

How is the lighting? Having good illumination is critical. Dimmers will enable changing the intensity as desired. Below is a video taken of our previous basement where color was used to create individual spaces within a Great Room concept using off white as the primary color.

Wow! That is amazing! You have thought of everything! In my basement, lighting is not great, and only one window in the tv area. I’m thinking dark won’t be the way to go.

I think dark walks in an already dark area actually work best. Instead of trying to make the basement something it can never be even with the lightest or brightest paint options embrace its true dark side and aim for cozy or moody. Whites and creams always look dingy in rooms with little natural light instead of the lightness the owners were hoping for.

Initially we talked of everything being white and having large colorful art bring the color. But the main floors were very formal. Since the basement was to be primarily for entertaining a more casual feeling was created with color.

Is your ceiling finished, drywall or drop? Certainly canisters can be installed. Ours was DIY so they were placed prior to finishing.

My ceiling is a beautiful white one and groove! The floor is a dark hardwood. Sending pic, don’t mind the r mess!

That is a sample of the green I was thinking of, maybe a little darker.

A VERY nice ceiling. Are you handy or have a good electrician?

Not the best photo because I had to grab from the listing. I installed 6, 5” canisters around the kitchen island without removing the ceiling. Needed that size in order to get my hand inside. Anything is possible, just depends on determination, time and budget.

Not a great image but this was the best i could do on my phone.

Oh nice! Looking for a bit darker though, I like the images that you sent up above. Cozy and moody!

It is hard on the phone to use the Bm app everything looks off. i color matched the fourth picture in my pintrest list and this is the best I could do. It is bluer and more pine gren than your inspiration color but darker than my last attempt.

I took a better pic of the room but I cannot figure out how to add the preferred color like you did. Can you add the color to this pic as well? Thank you!!

It's really a personal prefrence thing. I would say for sure a dark cave. I painted one small wall in my kitchen a dark green and have regretted it every day. It SUCKS MAJOR light out of the room. Others don't mind ...do what you like.

That was BM black forest green. It is almost a black so test a patch or bring some images you like and the store can help search for similar shades but maybe with less black undertones.

See how much bluer it is than your test swatch.

My home now is a one story built in the early 60's. The basement itself is wonderful...big slider and windows looking out onto a patio and that's it for natural light. In addition the ceilings here and there have what I call drop boxes which are hiding stuff. I decided to go dark, on walls and ceiling and drop boxes, all in an eggshell finish. I love it. All trim is bright white and so is the furniture. The bedroom is the same, as is the office and the large living/dining room (or I should say card room. I had lots of lighting installed, a light wool wall to wall. I wallpapered the bathroom.
