fun project! Will you continue the flooring that is in the family room into the new kitchen? I think you would need the same flooring if you are opening the space - is it still available?

Also, for the soffits - do you know if there is anything in them besides lighting?

Hi! I plan on completely re-doing all floors as I do not have matching tile and cannot find it. I also plan on tearing out all of the soffit and opening up the rooms. I want an island for sure with storage. Not sure what to do with bay window. Considering a bench seat with small breakfast table!? Idk

Once you have an island with seating, is anyone going to sit in the bay window area? I bet not. You can't do a built in bench seat because the windows are so low. I don't know that I would factor that area into your layout. I'd probably leave it open, after you use the new space for a while, decide if you want a cafe table and two chairs there.

What are the actual dimensions of the space, not just the generic layout builders provide that are really estimated measurements and almost never are the actual measurements due to real-life work? (Assuming that the build was perfect and the materials were all perfect so all measurements match exactly what's on the "plan" is not realistic. There's a reason builders always say "measurements are approximate" on their floorplans. Besides, we need more than just the general measurements.)

We need a lot more information, including a fully-measured layout of the spaces involved in the project.

Is the floor plan what you are considering? it doesn’t match your photos.

Noting unusual install of the microwave. can you remove that and instead add a window on that long wall. Your space is a little cave like w few windows. obviously soffit removal and a new lighting plan will help.... but still. get a window in. I'd use the long wall and install a long island opposite w your overhang and stools.....that will pull the kitchen in and create a galley like work space for you ...then your family living space wont be compromised with the angles and peninsula situation that exists now. If you run a good sized long island w decent overhang youll probably use it a lot and the table at the window could be a drop leaf pedestal style which is a smaller footprint but still useable. Start a sketch w about 16 feet to use on long wall...Remove the small pantry and that bedroom wall gets shallow pantry cabinets ..12 or 15 inches deep / maybe coffee station . Your island at 8-10 feet long can easily have sink so stove /hood and fridge over to the long wall.....pretty basic layout really ...but there is work and costs w prepping the space including a new window . .

you can use your long wall....as shown, you can make it look good / stick w range/hood and I'd want a window added if poss.
