Quality of my couches

I bought these couches and my stomach is nauseas cause I don't feel them. Please judge them and let me know how I can improve them. I hate how flimsy they look. They don't have stature.

When you say "stature," could you please define that as you see it. Are there any online images that show sofas that you believe have that feeling> Or can you put it into words? And did you buy all of them?

@beverly, I just feel like they need more volume especially on the seats. They are flatter than I would like

I mean they don't have the fullness in cushions and they are actually are not plush and definitely not comfortable.

The fix comes at the purchase point. Sectionals with chaises and deeper, not the 'standard', seat cushion dimension are better for lounging and casual family use. Guest use is more formal with less seat depth. You decide. Seat cushions can be constructed with low-cost poly wrapped urethane foam. The foam is available in different densities. Foam deteriorates in a straight line over maybe 10 years. Better seat cushions include pocketed spring interiors with different surround materials. Latex doesn't deteriorate but isn't widely available. Wool fiber wrap. You can add large ottomans to extend the comfort in lounging for a couch. A tray goes on the ottoman as a table alternative.

The right end uses a big ottoman.

We ( unfortunately ) do not read minds

    You bought them where? Online?

What is the maker /website etc?

What did you want them to look like, do they LOOK like what you ordered?

    What was the price?

What is the construction, cushion fill? Just foam and a wrap?

You need to give us more context...... in order to help you.

You want a cushion that looks more like this?

I will not lie. Quality makers of sofas do not love to make a bench/single seat cushion. You don't really want to buy one , either......despite their abundance online.

Why? The cushion, EVEN with spring down cushion, is not stable for long. The best of them will wrinkle. The best of them will need a constant flip and rotate to even remotely look great over time. The fabric you choose is of UTMOST importance, it too must be stable, not too soft such as a chenille.......and a bench seat will never have the "crown" fullness of a two seat or three seat. It is not meant to,

    Tell us what you have

    See below........

This UNFORGIVING/no give, no bounce back, front edge, noted where I wrote press down?

That is what upholstery experts, ANY, cal "built in cushioning destruction" Even on a three seat sofa.

The top is what i ordered and the bottom is what I got. They made them special for me in china cause I was buying for my home in South Africa

    Here is another example

These couches are not deep and the cushions are flat and stiff. The manufacturer says they use high density foam. They are very stiff and uncomfortable

You did not "get" what you ordered. It is that simple. You received junk, made we have NO clue where in China

Contact the source, provide them the picture you have above and good luck.

Call it lesson learned, unfortunately. ........sorry.

If you gave the actual source something to COPY? What you got did not come close.

The photo of what you expected is THEIR photo from online? Or you provided the mythical China source some pictures, and received as we are seeing? Which??

Such as.........you gave them THIS Jennifer Taylor below? ( ALSO JUNK, BTW)

There exists no "good" sofa with any stature for 900 dollars. Sorry, there is not, but what you received in the blue couch is worth about 299.00

The tan looks a bit better, though not nearly a match.

If YOU HAVE NO CONFIRMATION from the source of any information you gave the source, and that would have also specified cushion content, actual dimensions overall, and inside seat depth, etc........fabric, leg finish .every last detail? You will not have a sofa leg to stand on.

In no case will your problem get solved here.

Sorry but 3 totally different styles and the gray one looks cheap. The cream one not bad and why the church pew one at all with the others . IMO you never buy sofas on line I dislike one cushion sofas since they have no way of flipping the seats to wera equally. Those pieces do not belong together anywhere

I cannot reply directly which is a very bad design by Houzz. But, yes, I showed you the couches because those were my inspiration. @Patricia Colwell Consulting the pews bench is for upstairs. The beige and gray belong to same room (family room) and same as the chase. I know, when I saw the couches I lost it because the quality of the couches and even the materials used were so flimsey. Here is their website: Company Overview - Hangzhou Zhuoli Furniture Co., Ltd.

this person told me their quality was restoration hardware quality. What is worse I paid for shipping and customs.

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with this - for now, I’d finish the room and get the couches in place - you may end up selling the grey one and cutting your losses. Or you may be able to get new cushions made etc. If it were me, I wouldn’t bother going after the company - I think that would be a waste of energy

don’t be too hard on yourself - this happens a lot

I Clicked that link and got a BIG FAT security warning. Don't touch it (anyone following.)

    I'm on IMac..

Don't touch it from any device.

It would be nice if the OP deletes her comment with that link in case someone fails to see this comment.

As I said, the op has no resolution to her problem, here. Most likely, not a sofa leg on which to stand. WAH.

Buy cheap import junk and get cheap import junk. What kind of miracle were you expecting where you buy low and get high????? You conned yourself to believe you could get 10K quality by buying $100 junk. That lying to yourself that you are getting something for nothing is all there is too it. Throw it in the trash, and learn your lesson. Find a designer who can get Maitland Smith, Vanguard, and other to the trade stuff made in the US. Period.

Better yet? Buy nothing until you get to the house in South Africa. Get a bed, a lawn chair and a tv. Go shopping and SIT.

The Chinese companies do not care if what you get is not like what they show. I see you are going to S. Africa I bet they have much better quaity stuff right close to home

I think you can give up on getting any solution from a Chinese producer. You could have better outcomes with a local furniture store or a talented reupholster shop. There are different densities of foam. A shop can order replacement foam in a less dense spec to replace what you have.

@jane Moya, the link is alibaba and just like chinese companies aren't allowed to click on us links, that might be th3 issue. I use that link all the time. Chinese businesses can't click on reddit for instance. It's not always the case that it's a virus or a scam.

The help here is free. Nobody gives you better virus protection than Apple/Mac and sorry , but ...but a virus won't be FREE to any of us here.

You already bought yourself a problem from China. I certainly don't want a virus from China. I'm sure others may agree, and if they don't? Have at it : )

Well, now you know the sofas are horrible. You can make them feel more comfortable and more attractive for the time being.

Cushion supports: Use inserts or panels underneath the cushions to provide extra lift and prevent sagging.

    Add throw pillows.

    Add a yummy throw.

And, definitely, add a rug...what ever you choose, just make sure it covers most of the floor and put a felt pad under it...

Soft lighting and maybe a new wall color?

Is it in your budget to sell them at a price that is a bargain for the buyer, and recoup some of the loss? Then look for something else. So sorry this happened to you. I also think one of the posts is a bit harsh. I'm sure you feel bad enough already. I think we all know the lesson, "you get what you pay for." Sadly, for me, sometimes the only lesson is "I can't afford quality." But, that is not a lesson. That is a challenge.

That said, maybe you can afford quality. I like the comment to shop close to home. I don't buy furniture much any more, because anything available (unless it is thousands of dollars) is not as good as what I already have from an era that made good furniture. My strategy is to reupholster or have slip pillows made. I hope your outcome is to find something better... at least replace the worse one.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! I really appreciate all the advice and different perspectives. I completely understand the point about not focusing too much on the gray, but I also wanted to explain why I chose it—my house, like many modern homes, has a white exterior with black windows, so charcoal gray felt like a natural choice to tie everything together. That said, I do have another shade of charcoal gray I could use, but I’m still unsure if it will clash.

Since I'm currently in North Carolina and my house is in South Africa, I’ll have to test things out first before making a final decision. I love all the creative ideas you've suggested, and I’ll definitely incorporate some of them! I’ll also be sharing a photo of my other couch here soon.

When I’m back in South Africa and can actually decorate, I’ll be sure to share updates here as well.

I’ll respond to each of you individually, but I just wanted to say a big thank you for your time and input!"

If the couches feel flimsy and lack presence, try enhancing them with structured throw pillows, a bold area rug, or a stylish coffee table. Adding a solid, high-quality throw blanket can also create depth. If possible, consider sturdier legs or a firmer cushion upgrade for better support and structure.
