What would you do to this kitchen?

Working on remodeling my daughter’s first home. What would you do to this very small 13 x 7’ kitchen? We are going organic modern, emphasis on japandi style. Our favorite design so far involves sage green lowers and white oak upper cabinets with horizontal grain, white backsplash. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Can you show us a drawing of the layout? What kind and size appliances are you using? What kind of cabinetry? Will you fit seating in here? What is your budget and what are you planning for flooring? Finishes come last.

Two tone sage and white oak uppers sounds dated already. I think it will create a bottom heavy look in a narrow kitchen this size. There is nothing wrong with this size kitchen at all - mine is smaller. But you do need to be careful to combine visual elements so they play up the best features of the room.

This space with a functional layout will need good task lighting. Recessed 4" led cans 6" in from the edge of a counter in offset pairs will avoid shadows in prepping. The large opening to the right suggests you may have wall removal options. A 2D layout plan on graph paper to scale will get you more ideas.

Good advice already - if it were me, I’d nail the layout and make sure it functions really well then I would focus on limiting the different materials you use - seems like you’re going for simplicity and that takes a lot of restraint/discipline (id skip the two toned cabs)

does the kitchen open down to the eating area at the bottom? Is this a 3-sided kitchen then ? looks like a door got closed up... where is the foot traffic in and out of space? the layout and flow is first thing to factor or determine.

7'-0" is rather narrow. Will suggest you steal some space from adjoining rooms if possible.

You're pretty sure the wall on the right isn't a bearing wall?

I find this image very calming and think it could be considered organic modern.

We haven't heard from the OP (Gia) yet - but when you come back, please see the Featured Answer in the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First!" thread. It discusses what we need to help you, especially for the layout, which has already been pointed out above by others.

Colors, finishes, etc., come after the layout - that usually takes the longest and is the most important at this stage.

Note: If your daughter cooks, then function should be first, then looks.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I like the kitchen colors suggested by Carole Vaudable Interior Design 😊 I also prefer an organic/modern style, like Japandi. Will those colors work with the dark floors seen in the bottom right corner?

What would I do? I'd gather a few inspiration photos of concepts I really love, then put them to the side. It's too soon for that. I would measure the ENTIRE space including locations and sizes of doors windows and trim and any walls that are coming down. Put that on graph paper with legible numbers . Take multiple photos from every angle of the room. Make a wish list of appliance sizes. Then post all of that on this thread so we can help.

There are brilliant designers here but you have to give them the info they need to then help you. :)
