H daylilies 2025

last modified: 10 months ago

Let us see your H daylilies today.

I had three H daylilies leave the garden recently. Happy Happy left for bud drop…. so bad it had three buds on the few scapes it had. Howdy left along with Hawaiian Swirls. HS had declined terribly over the last three seasons.

How High the Moon, it’s name is appropriate. it is tall and blooms are pure white…hard to tell from the photos I have.

Harold Thomas has terrific blooms but has been slow. It got moved and hoping for a better performance.

Here Lies Butch had been on the slow side. It did really well the last two seasons, great improvement.

Her Best Bloomers has a wonderful rosey red, unlike any other red daylilies I have. It has been a bud queen here, did not do as well last season.

Hemstitched, decent performer here, was a bonus plant about 10 years ago.

Heavenly Hidden Treasure has done well here, good increase.

Heavenly Breezes hasnt been here long enough to evaluate….really tall for my garden.

Heavenly Curls has been slow to establish. It needs to improve this season to stay.

Sherry: More then one of these "H's" draws my eye. I think my favorite is Her Best Bloomers. I wonder what that color would do in my heat? I even like your UF Heavenly Breezes. How are the scapes? Does it need staking?........I seldom even mention this one, but it is such a champion bloomer that this year I'm going to give it credit. I've had this in ground for at least 30 years. I am a little ashamed of how I treat it. It's just so reliable that I almost forget it's a plant not plastic. Every early spring masses of yellow flowers appear and then reappear off an on all season (even if the scapes shrink in the heat).

    Happy Returns:

This is one of my newer favorites. The colors are right up my ally. Often it will take on a more greenish tint in the throat and on the yellow edges. It hasn't been overly vigorous for me unfortunately, but with my pot culture that's not a huge demerit.

    Heaven's Throne:

Sherry - Heavenly Curls has such pretty form. I hope it improves this season and gets to stay. Heavenly Hidden Treasure is one I like too!

David - Heart of the Sea has gorgeous color on the eye and edge. Hope that one does well in future seasons. You should cross Heroes in Blue and Heart of the Sea with All Things to All Men. I bet you'd get some terrific blue babies. Hits Different grabs me. I'll probably add it in coming years.

Maryl - Heaven's Throne is so pretty in your garden. I hope it survives your pot system.

Hoopla is one of the few H's I still have. I never got it out of the pot in Nashville, and it declined in that situation. I wonder how it will do in the ground here.

Heavenly Snow White (pictured with Grape Twizzler) is growing in Indy. It's a true white daylily.

Maryl, Heavens Throne is lovely, such great color. Heavenly Breezes met height stats here and more. I had one scape I needed to stake, it was 48” and leaned after a really windy rain storm.

David, I am also a fan of Heart of the Sea, gorgeous plant.

Debra, Heavenly Snow White is great. If my Heavenly doesnt survive I will look into Snow White. Did you bring Grape Twizzler? I always enjoyed your photos of it.

Sherry - I did not bring any of my Twizzlers. It was hard to leave them behind. Grape Twizzler was the best of the three I grew.

Beautiful H daylilies! I like How High the Moon, Harper's Bazaar (I love that color!), Heavenly Snow White, and Heaven's Throne.

I have quite a few H daylilies, thanks to the Heavenly daylilies.

I haven't decided yet if Halloween Dragon will leave the garden this summer. We have so many of this color.

I just haven't paid much attention to Happy Place. It will probably leave the garden also.

I usually go for bold colors, but I love the subtle colors of Heavenly Angel Kisses.

Heavenly Be My Valentine is a late bloomer.

Heavenly Christmas Cactus has been a standout the last couple of seasons.

Heavenly Grave Digger is new to the garden. It looks like it will be a good one.

It doesn't look like Heavenly Mirage will be a vigorous grower, but I love the flower.

Heavenly Pink Angel is a small flowered diploid.

I don't think Jamie Gossard ever sold Heavenly Red Soldier in his catalog. We obtained it as a bus plant at the summer conference held in Cincinnati in about 2013.

So far, I am not impressed with Heavenly Start Your Engines. It is registered as late but ours blooms earlier than that. It doesn't seem vigorous in our climate. That may be because it is surrounded by daylilies that are great growers and they are sort of crowding it out.

I don't love daylilies the color of Heavenly Stuck on You. It is a great grower, though, with a great scape. I am going to try some crosses with it this season.

    More to come . . .

Heavenly Velociraptor is a fast increaser in our garden.

Height of Fashion is a small flowered diploid.

Here is Hey Soul Sister showing her dark face.

I love the colors of Highly Venomous.

Hillside Bright and Early is a great one for the early garden. The hybridizer says it blooms with Stella in his garden (Ontario, Canada), but here it blooms after Stella.

Hippopotamus Kisses is new to the garden. I can't wait to see what it will do when its established.

Horns and Thorns is a southern-bred daylily that does reasonably well here.

Hot Buttered Rum is showing some teeth in this photo.

    That's all for now.

Nan - I always like Hey Soul Sister when you post its photos. Hillside Bright and Early is eye catching.

Sherry - I think I only brought two or three fans of Heavenly Snow White, but it multplies pretty fast, so I may have some to share next Spring.

    Lots of nice h's .

Sherry, Harold Thomas and Heavenly Hidden Treasure are my favorites of yours.

    Maryl, Heaven's Throne is beautiful!

David, Harper's Bazaar, Hit's Different, and Heart of the Sea are really pretty!

    Debra, I really like Hoopla

Nancy, Heavenly Red Soldier and H. Be My Valentine are my favorites of yours.

Hakuna Matata had its first year. The blooms were pretty but looking forward to more buds and taller scapes. I used it as a cross already.

Hot Wheels was divided the year before so no big shows.

    Hyperion with a franken-bloom!

    That's all

Sherry, I am sorry Hawaiian Swirls did not prosper in your garden. I always liked the colors in the bloom. Her Best Bloomers is a pretty color. Maryl, I am not surprised you like Heaven’s Throne-it is lovely. David, Heart of the Sea is striking. I really like Hush Little Baby but it has never multiplied well in my garden. Nancy, you do indeed have a lot of Heavenlys! Hippopotamus Kisses is nice! Debra, I hope Hoopla thrives for you-I like the look. Brad, I think you will be pleased with Hakuna Matata.

    Hakuna Matata

    A close up

    Hello Screamer

I am liking High Water Mark

    Heavenly Pink Twister

    Hearts of Glass

    Heavenly Dark Matter

Heartbeat of Heaven-when it is perfect, it is beautiful

Happy Happy-Sherry is right about bud count. It is low.

Kate, Heavenly Pink Twister is a winner and another lovely photo of Hearts of Glass.

Brad, Hakuna Matata looks great in your garden.

David: Honey Crunch Cupcake is a double I've looked at before. I like a little of everything in my collection including doubles. It's an eye catching color combination........Debra: Hoopla looks promising. I hope it takes off in ground for you.........Nan: Normally a yellow with red eye doesn't appeal to me but Halloween Dragon's colors and pattern looks good to me in your picture. Hillside Bright Eyes is along similar lines to my eyes. Maybe it's your camera, as the red color looks to be a deeper shade of red - almost maroon..........Brad: Hakuna Matata is a really nice one. You do get such lovely shades of lavender in your climate.........Kate: I like your Hakuna Matata too. If my climate were different I'd get more of the lavenders like it. And I will always like Happy Happy for the tight pleats on the edge. I'm happy I got to see it again.......Maryl

Brad and Kate - Hakuna Matata looks good in both of your gardens.

Kate - My High Water Mark never had the blue purple tones of your photo. It was always more pink lavender. I had forgotten that I still have that one because I didn't get a picture of it last summer.

Debra, the color on High Water Mark is what grabbed me when it bloomed. Here it is early in the morning.

I forgot about Hernando Star, one that has been in my gardens for many, many years. And yes, a yellow which I love but also one that puts on a great early show.

Nan, does Heavenly Grave Digger bloom with upfacing blooms like parent Vampire Fish.? I messaged you, but you may be like Debra and don't receive messages. I generally like the blossoms of taller ones to look at me, not the sky. I like the colors of Highly Venomous, but then saw the 5-inch size. Perhaps you can add some size to it.

Kate, I'm surprised to hear that Hush Little Baby isn't prolific in MS. I agree about Heartbeat of Heaven--a matter of when it's good. Hearts of Glass--what do you think of it? Hawaiian Swirls had to be deleted here too. Yes, the occasional flowers could be nice, but wanted to be hundreds of miles farther south.

So many nice H's pictured already; too many to name.

Here are some faces of Hey Soul Sister. Its bud Count is not an attribute.

Hot Buttered Rum has good bud count, but like many, seemed washed out last year. I was surprised to see Nan's darker picture. It is a tall plant, blooming fairly late.

Heman was not a strong performer last year, and colors were lighter in the bleaching heat. Court Troubadour to right.

Heroes on Horseback bloomed before the first heat wave. Nicely spaced flowers; airy presentation.

Handwriting on the Wall had fewer blooms after division, but still looked good.

Half Moon Key surprised with its strong performance earlier in the season.

Heavenly United We Stand always has a picture-worthy scape.

Heavenly Star Fire is a very large and tall bloom.

Hiding Place, not particularly vigorous, looked very good, with nice clear colors this past summer. Emmerich.

Heartbeat of Heaven, in a full-sun location, had a good year

How Lovely You Are has delicate hues. It can be very well budded, but was recently divided. The Rices' last years hybridizing unfortunately turned to the Doorakian line, and I don't see of their last intros popping up. Of course, it is typical that the last intros aren't well distributed.

Mantis, Hush Little Baby was first a main course meal for voles. I replaced it and a small tree close to it decided to explode in growth so a lack of increase and success with Hush Little Baby probably lies with environmental factors!!

Heart of Glass has been here two years. It has not reached height yet but I was very pleased with the blooms last season.

Mantis, Heartbeat of Heaven is so pretty. That is a good presentation by Heavenly United We Stand. Brad

Mantis, apparently my messages have all disappeared. I can't really say about the flowers of Heavenly Grave Digger. It is pretty new here and I generally don't pay that much attention. That should tell you that we have too many varieties.

Healing Waters, a Korth that usually gets good reviews. Too young here.
