The crown at the top is pretty over the top. I'd remove it.

You really know how to style a space. This room looks great.

White against white does nothing to enhance this area. Think contrast, contrast, constrast. I like to add lots of color in my bookcases, wall art, and accessories. Red, blue, green, yellow, purple, violet. Go for it!

Can you remove the cornices and have a finish carpenter align the tops with the panel over the fireplace? Additionally, you could paint the bookcase backs the wall color to lessen the contrast. Or add more contrast as below, including the over-the-fireplace panel. I really like your understated subdued palette, though.

Agree with paint or wallpaper on the back wall of the bookcase - if you don't want to commit to that, just cut inexpensive foam board to fit in the openings and paint/wallpaper those - easy to remove when you're over it

Remove the crown molding on the shelf sides and put up something simpler across the whole unit to unify it.

The placement of the TV is creating a top-heavy situation.

Removing some of the stone veneer and lowering the TV would make the biggest improvement IMO.

Agree that top cornices are over the top.Remove them so entire structure aligns across.

Call me old fashioned but I have always thought that bookshelves look best when filled with books.That also reduces dust build up.Filling the shelves with geegaws seems meh,and after a while looks stale.

Paint entire wall same as bookcases so the trim just blends in….add wallpaper inside or paint….add more books…add larger items like all white vases and bowls…stack family photos on wall to the right of bookcases..no frames in bookcase.

You could paint entire bookcase in a deep dark navy.
