DIY two nightstand into one cabinet?

I was gifted these two nightstands and I would like to DIY them to use as my tv stand as I’m on a tight budget. use Besides just putting them together how can I modify it to make it look like one cabinet? I’m going to paint them anyways because the tops are scratched. Thank you for your help.

If they are IKEA, you can look to see how they are built, but I expect by the time you've made them look like one unit, it would be cheaper and easier to just buy one, because you're always going to have a seam in the top.

Thanks you two I think you’re both right!

If they were mine this is what I would do. Remove the tops if possible and replace them with a one piece top. If the tops can not be removed, which is highly possible, I would cut off the overhang on each one in the middle, screw them together and put on a new top.

Same as taking a driving tour of National Parks what you desire is simple,,,,,IF,,,,,,,you have the tools and skill. The fact you had to ask makes me think you might be lacking in one or both but here it is. If there is sufficent clearance between tops of doors and cabinet top overhang, add faceframe for doors and trim doors to fit.. With cabinets squared and perminatly joined, sand finish off top and apply Formica or wood veneer of your choice. No need to worry about laminate overhanging top we can fix that.

Trim laminate and profile edge of top with ball baring guided router bit. Flush, ogee or cove will look nice.
