Am I the only one with blooming Hellebores?

I doubt it, or, I sure hope not! Let's see what you all have! I'll start: White is Lisann in the ground, and the red one is Mona Marble, I just picked her up today.

I have argutifolius 'Pacific Frost' in bloom. But too dark now to take a pic :-)

I can’t play yet over here in the midwest, but February is coming! That’s when I usually have Hellebores blooming.

ok indainagardengirl...I'll be waiting, and adding my others as they join the parade of bloom!

Summer pic to whet your appetite - there’s a lot in here ;-/

I left most of mine at the old garden. Pacific Frost was new this year. I'm sure I'll be adding some but have found that the species and more complicated hybrids do better in containers than x hybridus so will stick to those.

As long as they aren't pink!

    >As long as they aren't pink!

Agreed! I have Golden Lotus but its been kind of wimpy so far - weak growth and small flowers. Are you trying any of the yellow/gold types Pam?

I had a yellow with maroon spotting in my former garden, which maybe my favorite coloring for any hellebore. And another that was supposed to be apricot but was just sort of washed out. They were both xhybridus forms so not great performers in a container and I may not try them again. I don't think any of the intersectional hybrids have yellow coloring......

    H. foetidus has been blooming for weeks. Various orientalis seedlings have been fully out since Christmas and were in bud before.

Sorry about the poor focus. My eyes are dreadful.

Our hellebores are just starting to rise from their slumber. A few flower stalks, but nothing is open. Most of ours are from a few we bought many years ago that have seeded around. Probably 50 or so plants. We've had a pretty good spate of frozen weather and I've only trimmed the leaves from half of them. Too cold for this gardener. It's 28 right now. Brrrr.

A gorgeously sunny (but cold) winter's day and this thread motivated me so I visited the nursery yesterday. Still early enough in the season there was not much to pick from but I did manage to come home with a HGC® Ice N' Roses® Barolo. I was impressed by the vigor, the very large flower size and mostly, the extremely dark wine red coloring.

It got down to 21 last night. These guys are chilly.

Pacific Frost is really a nice strain, I hope mine seeds out before the main plant blooms itself to death!

Still only an H. niger here which has been trying to flower since Christmas but keeps getting snowed on, the rest are barely showing buds. My favorites are also the yellows, and Golden Lotus is up near the top! Some of the yellows are a little weaker, especially the ones with a yellow tone to the foliage, but they seem to do well enough once settled in.... although in a real dry summer and fall they can go dormant.

When Anna's Red was introduced many years ago I loved the combination of marbled foliage, dark, non-pink flowers and dark stems. Many more reds and burgundys have been introduced since then but I haven't noticed any that also had the marbled foliage. Then last season I discovered Mona Marble, she --once again-- has the "trifecta" of features that I liked in Anna's Red, which I still think is one of the best.

Add 'Garnet Frills' to the list of blooming Hellebores.

Thanks for making me look :) , I was surprised to see these fresh shoots came up during an atmospheric river event last week, but they are now frozen solid :( The only thing that makes winter tolerable up here is snow, so still hoping that'll happen.

Ideally, they'd be under 2 feet of lovely snow... I hope they'll 'try' again in April/May , fingers crossed !

Apposite timing. This month's RHS magazine.

Too early here. In a month or so we will start seeing them around here.

Tried to post more pix but failed. Anyone else having a problem?

Seems one at a time works. Unidentified in DD's garden.

Here in Oregon we've had a stretch of consistently cold days and very cold nights, and my hellebores have been in a holding pattern, just partly open. They look exactly like yours, floral_uk. Five more cold nights in the forecast, after that warmer temps and more open flowers. Hope we don't get an ice storm before then!

    Hellebore Harvest today!

Mine are still buried under snow, temps high teens and low single digits. :-(

I feel your pain indianagardengirl. The town I left in Minnesota, in 2006, at the age of 40, is 2F right now, at 2:30 pm central time. Meanwhile here in Oregon, its 52F at 12:30pm. I don't regret the move.

Lovely blooms and lovely photos, artinnature! That photo of Garnet Frills is like nature's stained glass window!

Anything I have is buried under a few inches of snow with a lovely inch-or-so-thick glaze of ice. The ice seems to just remelt a tad bit in any weak sun we have, only to refreeze because it's 12 degrees (F). Actually at night it's kinda cool because as you drive down the street and see all the reflected lights (porch lights, lights along driveways, etc) it looks like all the houses are in the middle of a lake!

But I digress. Warmer temps are coming next week so if I am not preoccupied with basement flooding I will go to check the status of my hellebores once the snow starts melting. I always mean to add more and I never get to it..... then always wish I had this time of year!

Yesterday this Hellebore bed was still covered with snow. But the temp went up to 50, so I was able to get it cleaned up

All ready for those new leaves and flowers

And they will not be long now

After a 3-day deluge the weather is finally nice again so I captured these photos: Frostkiss Glenda's Gloss, HGC Pink Frost & Garnet Frills.

Finally getting a few blooms to open up. In the last week we've had 55-60 degrees during the day, at night it's been near freezing.

mine are opening almost 2 months later than last year.

    Here is The Joker

Pink Frost is finally open. I like the upward facing blooms.

I'm coming to this thread a bit late but this Hellebore wasn't. This is 'Mahogany Snow' starting to flower December 18th 2024.... and today it's just about done and the new leaves are starting to form.

In the last few days of 70 degree weather my hellebores have shot out of the ground, and flowers just beginning

Pic below is last year on March 17, and the whole bed was in bloom. Here’s just one small part

Mine are no where near to be found…..

I just uploaded a new video to my YouTube channel https://youtu.be/IPPsaEZ2o-0?si=-TmfjIJrzDh14o7w showing my hellebores and a lot of other plants in bloom.

Also, this garden is for sale! There is also a nice house included: WVMLS# 826314 and RMLS# 223948649. Located in peaceful Dallas Oregon.

Klark, are you moving? Where to??

Pam, If we sell this place, yes we are moving. But, it all depends on selling this place, at a price that allows us to buy the other place. The other place is in Beaverton.

My Hellebore bed is beginning to put on a good show now, things are popping!

Penny’s Pink is up and will soon be a show off

We don't have too many of what I would call "special" hellebores, most are seedlings from the original ones we bought 10-15 years ago. They are popping right now and do make a nice winter display.
