Finalizing our library (in an endless new build) in a style best called "soft" industrial.

Take this design, absent the arch.

Add horizontal wall sconces

But instead of stained red oak veneer, we are leaning to dark coated panels.

Formica Deco Metal

For context, the nearby open concept spaces include floor to ceiling black steel fireplace, black steel and mesh stairs and Roman clay finishes. All window casings and jambs are black.

“Soft industrial,” whatever that is, and your proposed elements (all charcoal gray) have nothing in common with your inspo photo. The wood of the desk, the lamps, and the red touches in the carpet add softness and warmth to the space. Everything you are proposing will look and feel cold and hard. If that’s what you want, go for it, but don’t expect it to look anything like your photo.

Soft industrial (link) seems to be more a UK term.

We are mimicking the library design in a different "harder" material.

I like the rug idea. And we happen to have a couple that would do exactly as you suggest.
