Tantau Roses on Highgarden

I remember reading in the April and Ashley thread that some of you were hoping to get your hands on Tantau roses. Highgarden just listed several, including Wildberry, Capri, and Coffee Break! I couldn’t recall who wanted which, so I figured it’d be easier to start a thread and let everyone know.

I’ve had fantastic luck with Highgarden. They’ve always stood behind everything I’ve ordered, and their new arrivals seem to be updated daily. It’s been a dangerous week for my wallet with them adding Iroha, Ci Xuan, Emma Woodhouse.

Hope this helps someone! Let me know if you end up ordering.

P.S. If anyone is looking for a white rose, I just have to recommend Le Blanc—it has been an absolute stunner and workhorse in my garden. And that’s saying something because I’m not a white rose lover at all! I originally planted it just to fill a gap, but it has completely won me over.

I don’t like to play favorites, but if I had to, Le Blanc would be in my top three—no question.

    Hi, Lili,

I found Highgarden Roses (HGR) this season and have ordered from her. I highly recommend her! She is fabulous! Her roses can be very healthy, tall and thick canes on delivery.

    .

My Vevety Twilight rose came from HGR in a gallon fresh pot, no leaves. . Very happy with it growing really well-leafed out asap! It’s been growing in a cool about 55-68F kitchen, during winter, under (light) grow lights & little sunlight from a window. Grow conditions deter bugs , but plants grow slower. I will plant her outside in spring.

She’s one of my 3 best nurseries especially for florist and rare roses. She has garden roses, too. She has options for sizes, but usually it is already selected & I receive a large plant-possibly 2 years old-own root.) She has the most photos and more information about her roses and breeder on her names, on her website! I often use her for references on any roses I order.

Moses—Thank you for the reminder! I’ve tried to update my username to include my growing zone, but Houzz just won’t let me. For reference, I’m in Zone 9b—hot and dry southern Arizona.

Kitty—Your VT looks so happy in your kitchen! When will you be able to plant outside?

I just got an alert that my Highgarden order has shipped! I have six more roses arriving on Tuesday: Jude, Ashley, Aushunter, Anne-Sophie, Butterfly Princess, and Georgia Peach. Luckily, I can still plant outside—Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be 80 degrees!

Oooh I love Highgarden too! Last year I got White O’Hara, Romantic Antike, and Unforgettable from her. This year I’ve bought The Pride and Agnes Schilliger, the latter of which is still available. Lovely, healthy roses and the size L is 2 years old and bloomed for me in their first season. The only thing that stops me from ordering more is price, they’re so expensive.

Thanks for the feedback about the rose health and thriving. I hesitated when I read on the website that they not only defoliate the plants before shipping but also cut back the canes significantly. Since they're own root, you're cutting off a fair bit of growth potential. It sounded like they send those own roots bare rooted then, is that right? There are a lot of factors that make the shipping complicated, so your feedback on how well it looks on arrival and thrives in its first weeks is really useful.

Hi Cynthia-Here are a few pictures from my last Highgarden order. All five were purchased as size small, but a few were larger than what I’ve typically seen in that size. I think they may have substituted some for a larger size.

These are not bare-root roses—they ship with soil wrapped in plastic. I remove as much of the soil as possible while inspecting the roots.

I hope this answers your questions!

Yes, that helps a ton! Those look like well-branched healthy roses and I can deal with the soil wrapped in plastic. I appreciate you posting this, Lily!

I believe some of High Garden's roses are imported from China and will be subject to a 10% tariff starting today. Diane
