Art is very personal choice. A piece the size of the firebox for over the FP and larger piece for the other wall. Then you need some pillows or a throw in a color from the art to add life to the room.

Consider painting your mirror frame white,, or leave as is and placing it vertically with layered art work. I'm suggesting that because the mirror reflects light across the way.

Then choose art work for over sectional wall, either very large or a pairing in a palette of blues, tan, gray.

I suggest something with more impact for above the mantel, either a painting you like and then coordinate accent pillow with colours from the painting or something like below with a mirror grouping. Black framed art behind the sectional and an arc lamp would also work in that corner.

It looks like the TV is so deep in the firewood niche, it can only been seen by the person sitting in the chair directly across from it. If that's the case, and the family room is used by more than a couple of people watching TV, consider mounting a framed TV above the fireplace which can also display art. There are lots of options for selecting art and some models can cast images from your phone. Filling the niche with wood will bring some warmth and an organic element to the space.

You asked whether to add one or two pieces above the sectional - in addition to finding the image you love that will be cohesive with other elements, you'll also want to consider the size and orientation. I've had good luck finding pieces at GreatBigCanvas. You've created a beautiful, clean space, the finishing touches will really elevate it more.

Measure that side of the sectional. 1 piece or 2 pieces 2/3 of that measurement usually is pleasing to the eye

The morror reflects nothing worthh seeing twice so replace that with apiece of art you love The TV makes no sense there it should be where you can actually watch it from the sofa so on the other side of the FP. Of course you can put art above the sectional and really the TV will be too high above the mantel BTW you do not need a Frame TV and smart TV can display whatever you want .

Great advice! Unfortunately the tv. is placed in the big cutout. W have though a lot about moving it and putting it above the fireplace, but wonder if it will be too high and we'd have to arch our necks? Thoughts? Also, there is no electrical there, so would the cord be sticking out to the side?

There might be several possibilities but we need more information. Photos of the wall opposite the fireplace and the space adjacent to the family room, dimensions, and descriptions of the adjacent rooms and doors will help. There may be a fairly simple solution just by changing your furniture layout such as rotating the sectional and shifting it closer to the fireplace, then placing the TV on the wall where we’ve been discussing artwork.

While the TV placement is awkward, your instinct to add art to the mantel and the other wall will pull the eye away from TV setup. I disagree that the mirror doesn't show anything. It reflects light and maybe some nature outdoors when shutters are open??? If not, then don't use it in a layered way if you go in that direction with art on the mantel.

Is the purpose of the niche to house that small tv? Depending on what else is going on with it, consider closing it up and putting the tv on a larger stand.

Two complimentary art works would look wonderful. Both these have gray, tan, and blue accent but are different in style.

Samsung makes a tv look like a picture so doesn't look like an eyesore. Place it on a pull out wall mounts above the fireplace. Also use that nook if entertain a mini fridge hold drink in and snack area.

A good place to find some art and craft work is at colleges. Students usually choose artwork to sell during a open house art and craft auctions affordable pieces and be helping future artists. I try and do this since you find unique paintings and design works instead of items everyone has.

If want be real unique pieces blown glass school that sell their pieces ia a good place too.
