I love my florentina but like many kordes after a great spring show rebloom can be weak. I think the bloom form of Florentina is more romantic that lady in red but can’t comment on the others performance because I don’t grow it. I would love to try it one day. Hope otherw can be more helpful. 😊

While an outstanding rose In all respects , lady in red has a tendency to hog the spotlight In my view. Her color is very strident She compete with Those around her Rather than helping to set them off. I would love to see her As a specimen Planting. I believe Ben grows her so he might be able to comment Better. I adore florentina But with my midge can't comment on her rebloom.

I started a thread in the fall about red roses Climbing. I'll see if I can find it as there were a lot of good suggestions. What is the setting for this rose ?

I'm in a diff climate but the last 2 summer were super dry..dry enough to evaporate most of a few acres of ponds lol ,which never happens here. Anyhoo, my Florentina got massive in a pot, like 14 ft and bloomed all spring, summer, and fall. It also had nice hips. The thorns are evil. It was right next to Don Juan and out performed him. DJ is way better for fragrance. I don't have Lady in Red but have heard good things about it.

In my colder zone it's not even a fair competition - Florentina beats the heck out of Lady in Red for winter hardiness, vigor of growth, frequency and profusion of bloom, and (in my eyes) beauty and color. The deep red blends so well with everything else without the stridency Vapor talks about. No scent, but to my nose that is true of both of them.

Florentina has thick petals so presumably is good at tolerating heat. I have gotten decent rebloom but it takes at least 4 years before it reliably reblooms after spring. Climbers take a while to settle in, and Florentina is so enthusiastic at growing canes that it takes a while to settle down and shift that energy to blooming.

I can't comment on Lady in Red as I've never had one survive longer than a year or two. I've tried several times but no luck. For other red climbers, Fields of the Wood is a reliable rebloomer in a darkish red but not the beautiful form of Florentina. Ramblin' Red is the same pattern (and possibly the same rose). Quadra is a beast in more of a crimson than dark red, but it blooms nonstop once established. If you want a mini climber, Red Cascade can weave its way among other roses and provide a punch of true red. The Prince's Trust has better hardiness for me than Lady in Red, but doesn't rebloom all that well. Santana and Guinee are a lovely dark red but don't get very big and don't rebloom all that well.

Wow !! Thank you all for the help. I’ll pass on lady in red . I’m keeping my eye out locally for florentina . I don’t usually care for reds but this one seems so enticing. I agree that LIR may be too vibrant . I don’t even like reds so I’m not sure why I’m considering it 🤣. It sounds like florentina is a clear winner !

I live in zone 6a and have three Florentina roses. Two bloom reliably and are simply the most beautiful deep red roses that I have ever seen. That they bloom in clusters making them even more stunning. This is their second year and they haven't rebloomed, maybe when they get more established. I agree with @Nippstress Nebraska z5 that the thorns are evil! I don't have Lady in Red so I trust the posters who do.

I live in the SF bay, 9b sunset zone 14. I moved my florentina in the winter last year. 5 months later this is her photo during spring. she rebloomed well during the summer but my climate is not hot or dry.
