Definitely for me, it would be Love Song. I've grown two of them since they were first introduced with no problems. Mine have a very blue light lavender and have grown large over the years. i grow two Angel Face, but black spot isn't a problem here, so they are fine. Obviously my zone 7 SW Idaho, dry, hot summers, is nothing like your climate in Texas. If you want a purple floribunda, a true purple, then grow Ebb Tide. Diane

Celestial Night is a good mauve. i have both twilight zone and celestial night. twilight zone required spraying to stay clean. Celestial night doea not require any spraying. it is my most healthy mauve.

I grow Like No Other, Celestial Night and Twilight Zone and love the color Mauve. I am not a huge fan of Lavender roses, but like the Mauvey pink color and the carmine side of reds.

Like No Other has been fantastic. Planted it bare root from Jackson and Perkins last year. The stems and foliage are a beautiful light green, very healthy for me and disease free. The blooms are heavily petaled, rounded and cupped, about 2.5-3 inches. The fragrance last year was light to medium, kind of a true rose scent (the plant is immature still) . It grew well and has thick canes and is about 3 feet tall by two foot wide. It bloomed frequently in flushes with many blooms per flush. Out of my 60 roses, it easily performed in my top 10 for vigour, health, and form. Sometimes, I wished the size of the bloom was more like 3-3.5 inch and then it would be the perfect all around rose. but thats okay! it does have a slightly lighter reverse which I adore.

Celestial Night was potted from Heirloom, as was my Twilight Zone. They were fairly small plants and are still smaller in size.

Twilight Zone gave me some very bery beauitful blooms at the beginning of spring, and then paused through the heat of the summer. It almost defoliated from blackspot and looked pretty pitiful for a while. Its color and form were fantastic, but health was not as great. It grew more laterally than hoizontally and is kind of sprawly looking. I hope it does better as it matures as the blooms were worth it. I don’t recall a much of a scent.

Celestial Night grew to be about 2.5 feet by 18 inches, bloomed in flushes even with the heat. Most flowers were kind of loose and immature looking - not exactly true to form yet. The color was very pretty. The health was better than TZ, but did have a little blackspot.

I am in zone 9a, in Central Texas between New Braunfels and San Antonio. My roses are facing South West and get brutal afternoon sun. It gets into the triple digits every summer and we have also been in and out of drought. The ecoregion I am in is the long sliver of Blackland Prairie that runs through Texas, and my soil is very dense black alkaline clay.

Today I am getting Cosmic Clouds bare root from Brecks of all places, which I think will be a great addition to this little color group.

I have Celestial Night coming this year. Got Cosmic Clouds last year and like it alot - very pretty color, Echo Tx you will like this one! I am not sure whether it wants to be a climber or a bush - I prefer a bush so keeping it pruned as such.

Such great suggestions - thank you!! I had been looking at Like No Other - that looks like a good choice and I love the hue of Love Song - that will look good with these and Ebb Tide. I have been wanting that color but not sure which is the better of the two. I dont want a sprawling rose, so maybe Ebb Tide? How does that do for everyone? Last summer was brutal for us in East Texas. I am 2 hours east of Houston. Bad drought.....terrible heat. Expecting the same this year.

I’m not in Texas, but I’ve grown Lavender Crush for around three years now, and it is very hot and dry here, with frequent triple digits and no rain. LC took a year or two to take off, but now would be 8’ tall if I left it, and 4’ wide at least. It’s on a light-colored wall that gets noonday and afternoon sun.

So funny Lavender Crush was mentioned! I have a friend who grows one and I really like it. I havent been able to find one in a few years, tho they used to be in the box stores. I was in Home Depot this afternoon, supposedly to get something for my horse barn but really to look at new roses. Guess what? There it was! So happy to snatch it up! To keep it company......I also got Cl. Eden, Kardinal [a red rose I saw many many years ago at a Houston Rose Society garden tour and always meant to get], Beautiful Day, Gene Boerner [another one - this is a great rose!] and Sunbright. Love Song looks like it will need to go on the list........I am doing a bed in these colors and want different ones in the lavender/mauve/purple tones. Also plan to use purple/mauve annuals and perennials.

I hope you update us with photos!! I saw Lavender Crush at Walmart last week. The only reason I didnt buy it is that I truly do not know where I would put it, and I still have bare roots being delivered.

I am in the same boat. Bareroots still to be delivered - and I need to get these roses I bought locally in the ground. I have a friend with Lavender Crush - its beautiful - and huge. I read that canes become stiff, so am planting it on a trellis where I can tie down the young canes and train them. That area is going to be my lavender/mauve/purple bed.

LavenderCrush can get very purpley in my hot humid climate. They have a little bit of a white reverse on the leaves. Queen of Elegance can get very mauve as can Distant Drums.

I wouldnt call Like No Other, a mauve but more magenta. I love her Quarter Pounder blooms though. Double Stacked fluffy puffy.

Plum Perfect definitely on the purple side.

Quicksilver is a good lavender Climber with quartered blooms. Not a lot of fragrance though. Her leaves stay clean in my no spray hot humid mess lol.

Queen of Elegance more mauve with touches of terracotta in the center at times..this photo does it no justice

Spirit of Freedom is lilac pink often lending to lavender. She is fragrant and has over 200 petals. Doesn't ball for me in humid heat. Old fashioned rose fragrance and a strong climber. Foliage stays clean. I highly recommend for the Deep South.

Distant Drums can get a little mauvy.

She doesnt get really tall. I would put her out front.

Aged DD bloom.Smells spicy maybe a clove, cinnamon, and this aged bloom in a vase, def had a coffee fragrance. I made hubby sniff it to be sure and he agreed. Such a chameleon and blooms all the time. Leaves are black spot free.

Carla, I agree that the roses we are discussing are not truly the color Mauve, but for some reason are usually referred as Mauve. Like when i was looking at the rose Mauvelous which is also kind of a magenta purplish blend. I also agree with Sultry thay LNO is truly a magenta. But also, color is weird and subjective as well. We can all remember the blue and white and black and gold dress nonsense from many years back. My daughters always argue with me about blues and green shades. I see green and they are adamant its a blue haha. my rods and cones may be off a smidge

I agree color (and smell) is very subjective. My phone csmera is horrible at picking up dark magentas and reds..getting them all muddled together lol. reds look pink, dark pinks look red or pinker than they should at times. Purples and lavenders seem to photograph truer on my phone. I have a good camera but never keep the battery charged lol and its just easier to be lazy use my phone. Going out in cloudy days or evening light seems to be good for me to take photos. I'm sure sunrise might be good too but I'm usually to busy then.

One year on my deck, I did the whole thing in purple/lavender/mauve flowers - pansies, in winter then the summer annuals like the hard to find lilac periwinkles - I forgot the others......petunias, and whatever else I could find in that color. With potted boxwoods - it was truly beautiful and I wowed all my friends. Now why I have not done that since I do not know. Probably lack of time to plan and buying any flower that caught my eye......But now, I am in process of getting alot of construction done - new carport, a pergola on my deck and a smaller one in back.yard that the deck faces. Lots of work going on now & it a huge mess, but I am really anxious to put everything back together and a flowerbed off this deck is what I want to plant all these lavender/mauve, etc. roses in. The bed has a couple of years of rotted horse manure topping it a couple of times a year [I raise horses so have a good supply!] And I am going to be organized about the deck too - sticking with one color and shades in that color. It is striking and cohesive. Like an all white garden with green shrubs. Would love to do an apricot and white garden.......

Echo, I have ordered alot of roses this year - I do have the spots to put them in several partially full beds - which have been topped several times with this manure. Soil is crumbly and rich - I have laid down cardbord, feed sacks under the manure and it has disintegrated into good soil. So have the place to put them - just have to decide where they will go. I have orders coming from David Austin, Edmunds, One Love, Palatine, Jackson Perkins, Roses Unlimited. I cant help but buy some of these roses coming out in Lowes, Home Depot and Walmart. Trying some of the "True" series. Have True Friendship and True Sincerity and like them both. Am excited about Maui Sunrise, Martha Stewart, JP's Lemon Burst, Double Ambre [I am getting duplicates of Double Easy Orange and Peppermint Party - these 2 were superb last year! Highly recommend them!], Kendra Sunrise, Sonnewelt, Dannahue from DA, all the Palatines........to name a few. Always love the Roses Unlimited selections! My DA shipment is getting ready to go out, so I need to plan exactly where they will go so I can start digging the minute they get here. Lots of fun work to look forward to!
