That total wall is a mess of bad ideas.

There is a technique where you fill in the mortar lines and then place a smear coat of mortar over the total rock face.

You end up with something that looks more like this below. That could be a good look for your fireplace.

An interior mounted screen is a better solution for your hearth.

Is that an actual functioning FP? I think the shmear is the answer to the dilemma now but peach I probably one of my least faves for color so wondering what drove that choice at all. The shelving is tacked on and honestly I see nothing worth highlighting on the shelves either so no wallpaper IMO .

Please go stand BACK take pictures of the entire room, all angles. Use JPEGS!! and not screen shots from the phone, File the pictures and upload from photos in the phone.

The bookshelves? Those should not be there at all......let alone highlighted with wallpaper.

Be very careful when picking out wallpaper or even painting the back of the shelves. Sometimes more of the pink comes out from the stone when you introduce a color nearby.

I would address the fireplace first based on the great update ideas given above. Then revisit the wall color and bookcase color as a whole.

Schmear wouldn't get rid of all the pink color. Some shows through. I would consider painting it a dark Charcoal gray fireplace.

I think the stone’s shade is only one of many issues and instead of adding wallpaper/another element that won’t help (will do the opposite), suggest trying to help unify everything. I‘d start with the bookcases, as their color and style are not complementary to the overall fireplace. I’d strip/stain or paint them in an earthy color and rethink how they are accessorized.

Maybe the stone will look better, but if not look into various techniques and the results before you tackle.
