Nope.

If you use Ben Moore, they have a satin finish which is between semi-gloss and pearl.

Their six finishes from no sheen to hi-gloss are: flat, eggshell, pearl, satin, semi-gloss, hi gloss.

I don't see a need for anything other than regular flat or matte in a kitchen if you have a backsplash since you dislike shiny finishes. Except on trim - there should be some level of sheen on trim. Unless you have a baby or toddler who likes fling food. :-)

What exactly are you painting in the kitchen? Makes a difference when considering finishes.

Semi-gloss isn't the only option for kitchens, it just happens to be easier to keep nicer in a kitchen compared to other paints with less sheen. If you want eggshell paint, go for it. Be aware that it can pick up dirty more and be more difficult to clean than paints with more sheen.

I use eggshell in my kitchen, and its fine. In bathrooms and laundry room, I still use semi gloss. I would not use flat or matte in my kitchen, since kitchens, do occasionally need some areas scrubbed on walls.

Flat for the ceiling, and honesly, everything else. But I dont have a lot of wall space.

I've been using a matte finish for years and never had a problem with it in my kitchen but I buy quality paint.
