Sa-Si daylilies 2025

last modified: 12 months ago

I am dividing the S daylilies into two groups since there are more S’s than other letters. There will also be some seedling posts at the alphabet end.

Schnickel Fritz is a great small daylily….great increase and bud count first two seasons .

I have a few Siloam daylilies, Ethel Smith is my favorite.

Siloam Peony Display has been here three seasons and has been slow to establish.

Silky Skies is a Lambertson that has done well here.

Sea Dragon is an eye catcher in the garden. Has done great in midday shade.

Sailor Sky…..I cant say enough good things about this daylily. It holds up great in all day sun, a nice late bloomer.

Savannah Debutante is getting established, good height here.

Scandinavia has been here two seasons. I added itafter seeing Mantis’s photos.

Simplicity in Motion has had good increase and bud count after only two full seasons.

I have to pick the double Schnickel Fritz as my favorite. Centers like carnations on some blooms. It is very short, but if you think of it as you would a carnation and not a daylily, well then it's fine.........This first one is new for me this year. Did very well and bloomed quite a lot with doubles and triples at times.

    Sitting On A Cloud:

Sips of Sin. First year to bloom. Had a good depth of color and I liked the shade of red. I'm rather arbitrary about red, so this Hensley gets another year from me if it overwinters:

Sherry - I always love your photos of Silky Skies. I grew that one in a pot and lost it. Sea Dragon always impresses, and I like the form of Simplicity in Motion.

Maryl - Both of the ones you posted here look lovely. Both have nice, rich color!

Now to see what I have left in this category. Most of my S's come after Si:

Sensational Heart was gorgeous last year and set several pods.

Here it is in a clump:

$exy Samantha is one of my best parents - sets a pod every time no matter how hot. Although Hansen registered it as evergreen, it was usually semi-evergreen in Nashville.

$exy Samantha X Bubblegum Delicious 1 - The tallest and best budded of this cross and a semi-evergreen.

$exy Sam X Bubblegum De. #2 is an evergreen. It has the best watermark of the three sibs and a cream/white edge.

$exy Sam X BD 4 is either dormant or semi-evergreen with lots of dormancy in it. This sib has the most ornate edge and is a great shade of pink, rather than rose.

Sherry, I always enjoy seeing Sailor Sky!!

Maryl, I like Sitting on a Cloud.

Scarlett Pimpernel is tall, large and showy.

    Siloam Amazing Grace

Both of these are Spirit of the Dove x Sky over Schueller, from seeds sent by Celeste. Huge flowers, well budded, tall, quick to increase.

The rest of my S's will be in the next posting.

Kate - Your picture of Shores of Time is so pretty! The clump of Simplicity in Motion impresses me.

Brad - I love that first Spirit of the Dove seedling! I bet you were wanting lavender seedlings, but there's something special about that red one!

Debra, I really like $exy Samantha Bubblegum 2 with its pretty watermark. Sensational Heart is very pretty too.

I was surprised at red seedlings from 2 lavenders, but I do like the first one a lot too. The other is too faded naturally.

Kate, I always like seeing Shores of Time. Shuffle the Deck is a nice one!

There are so many pretty daylilies in this post. I like Sips of Sin, Scandinavia, Debra's seedlings, and Simplicity in Motion (what a clump shot!).

    Saberback

I love the colors of Samsational.

    Here's our Sarah Christine.

School Bus is a small flower.

Sea of Cinders is a favorite here.

As the name suggests, September Flame is a late bloomer.

    Shabby Chic

It will be interesting to see how She's Got the Look comes through this winter, which has been the coldest we have had in a while.

Shipwreck Cove is another southern bred daylily whose survival might be threatened by this cold winter.

    That's all for me today.

Nancy - You have some nice ones there! I like Saberback and Samsational, and Shipwreck Cove is a real eye catcher. I hope that one comes through winter for you!

Many nice ones in this posting.

Maryl, I really like the depth of color of SIPS OF SIN. Looking forward to hearing how it does this summer.

Debra: SENSATIONAL HEART is a color I love. I am really enjoying the deep rose/cerise colored blooms.

Brad: I think I will have to add SILOAM AMAZING GRACE this year. I have admired your images of this plant over the years.

Kate: SHORES OF TIME is a wonderful looking bloom.

    Here are my contributions:

SILOAM MELVIN'S YELLOW: Nice early season yellow.

SILOAM LOUISE WATTS: Nice small pink out of SILOAM APPLE BLOOSOM.

    SCOTT FOX

    SILOAM SAMBO

    SHORES OF TIME

    SHIRLEY'S RED DRAGON

SABER TOOTH: This photo was taken at 5:00 pm

    That is all from me.

Nancy, I love all the dark purple on Shipwreck Cove. Great pattern and form too. I'm not big on yellow, but Sarah Christine is very pretty.

David, Siloam Amazing Grace has such heavy substance. Weather never bothers it at all. SILOAM MELVIN'S YELLOW is a nice yellow [wow I liked two yellows in one post!]. And I always love seeing Shores of Time. Quite beautiful.

    I missed one:

SCREAMCICLE: Relatively new in my garden. It is an attention getter.

Sarah Christine taken with bad lighting. Probably taken in sun with low exposure. Yellows tend to flare, otherwise.

Sitting Cool also under bad lighting.

Sea World has been the tallest Hanson in this color combo.

Safe Island can be very nice but is still recovering from division. Kirchhoff. There were years when it actually rebloomed, but recent seasons have not been kind.

Salty Skipper in 2023. Not much over 5 inches. Was recovering from division last year.

Seminole Wind. It can be difficult to delete the Stamile pinks.

Silver Ice. An older Munson that can be very nice.

She's Like a Rainbow last year was about a foot tall. Hoping that was an anomaly.

Sips of Sin. Very deep and bright. Haven't seen it in clump

Sandhill Shine. This Boatwright looked good in 2023, but was in scorched part of garden last year.

Taken in intense sun against a pale wall, this pic of Scandinavia, after severe drought, still shows some of its floriferousness.

Mantis - The clump shot of Sarah Christine is impressive. Sea World has beautiful blue tones, and I agree that Stamile pinks are worth keeping.

Mantis: I've got to go with Sips of Sin. It looks as saturated in your garden as in mine. And considering the difference in climates that says something. I sure hope mine survives these single digit temperatures. Last night it was 3...............Maryl
