Help Updating Hardwood Floors

Can anyone help me determine what type of floors these might be? Also any suggestions on how to update them.

House was built in SC in 2014. Current owners said they thought it was cypress pine but my research shows that as a popular flooring in Australia - can’t find anything about it locally. Then they also remembered something about “Carribean” but can’t remember if that was the type of flooring or stain.

If you have floors that look similar, please let me know. We need to carry these floors in to 2 bedrooms . Trying to figure out how to match them and then what I could do with them that might help update the home a little.

Bedrooms? Don't try to find something 'similar' but not quite. Contrast the floors.

Based on the color variation and size of wood knots. It is either American Cypress or Red pine. Sand a area for more detail look.

It's been nicely sanded and stained,. Why not leave it?. What look are you trying to achieve? If, you go light, the red wood will pop more. Both AC and RP have red and pink in it.

What is your vision of 'updated' wood floors? Most want their floors to compliment the trim out in a home. For a hot minute some sorry now folks were trying to make beautiful wood tones gray. What's in the bedrooms now?

I completely agree with G&S Floors. Both of those woods he mentioned are indigenous to SC and a very good stating point. Lovely looking floor by the way.

Contact a local independently owned wood flooring company. They will be able to determine the species and recommend same/similar product for the rest of the home. They will also know if/how it can be refinished.

When we lived in LA, I used a wood flooring guy that was the third generation running the family wood floor business. He was kept busy with referrals and had no need to advertise.

Maybe, but not from those pictures. At first glance these look like an engineered Pine made by Anderson years ago. It had a similar stain color, where many Pine-look floors are finished natural.

Better pictures could help, along with board width and length information. Is it over wood or concrete subfloor? Does it sound like typical wood, or very solid like engoneered wood over concrete. Do you have an idea on the age? Site finished of prefinished? You can tell by looking at the joints. You might also be able to inspect the edge of a board by removing a piece of doorway trim. That could tell you if there's enough wood to refinish.

Also, Tesoro used to have a line of engineered planks that were unlike anything else I've seen. They had species called Caribbean Cherry, Caribbean Walnut and they may have also had a Pine. It was engineered, prefinished with square edges and about 5" wide. It had a decent top veneer layer.

Thanks for the help. Next time i am able to access the home I will take better photos and hopefully be able to arrange a local flooring person. The bedrooms have very old carpet that needs to be replaced and I prefer hardwoods everywhere when possible. They are also heavily scratched in some places and very light in the area covered by area rugs, so I figured if I was going to sand and re-stain, I might as well choose something that matches my style.
