Rack for growing plants

Hi, I have a cement deck that accumulates occasional seed trays and small propagation pots on the ground and its an eyesore. So was searching for ideas for shelves etc and noticed home center sells 5 tier plastic storage shelf units (HDX brand). Disadvantages might be that they are not made for outdoor thus may reduce the life (but such low cost so who cares) and lower shelves might not get much light but in my experience seedlings or propagations dont need much light initially. Deck pergola is covered with shade fabric.

Is this a good choice?

I could make a 6' slat wood shelf/table with 2x2's ripped from 2x4's but would probably cost about the same and a few hours work. I made a potting bench long ago but not really enough space and continual moisture would ruin it eventually.

Just make sure to fix the shelves to the ground - even a small breeze can upend a shelf-rack, ruining weeks of work. It is also worth rotating the seed trays around so all seedlings get adequate light and do not show distorted growth as they naturally grow towards the main light-source (the sun). Turn the trays about make use of the differing light amounts, with shade-lovers on the lower shelves, keeping the top shelf for those plants which require full sun.

I use a wrought iron metal Baker's rack like used in a kitchen. There a lots for sale on Marketplace.

Those plastic racks, unless they are UV stabilized and I doubt they are, will only last a year or two outdoors. They will break down very rapidly especially if there is any significant weight on them like, say ... plants.
