No and no. Neither of those goes with the rustic mantel--they are quite glossy and formal looking.

The walls are light gray, but we are getting lvp flooring. There is nothing in the room that is staying.

I dont like any of your samples with your mantle. I honestly think the brick that you already have is a much better look for your room.

You need to post some inspiration pictures that have you thinking these tiles are what you need for the fireplace.

Show us a living room with a fireplace that you just love and would like to create the same feel in this room.

Leave the brick, goes much better with the entire room.

Your large scale, modern tiles clash with the traditional crown molding and palladian window and also don't work at all with your rustic mantel. LVP choice looks a little rustic with the knots, but is traditional in color (I hope you have a whole box to lay out to make sure it won't lean stripey due to the color variation within one plank before committing to it).

Decide what overall direction (traditional, rustic, modern) you want to go in then remove the elements that don't add to space. It would be far more difficult to delete the traditional elements so the mantel is the easiest thing to purge.

I have not been getting ideas from looking at pictures of fireplaces. What I have seen on youtube looks very plain. We just want to update from the red brick, and use this mantel.

The room is being refloored and will have new furniture, so there is nothing to show. There will be an antique buffet in that room, used as a liquor cabinet. Thanks for all the advice.

Is it possible to use real hardwood on the floor instead of LVP? There's nothing luxurious about it and it's made of plastic. Wood will last forever and looks so much better.

Will not suit your mantle!

Consider venetian plaster (suits traditional and modern) and I love the look. For even more interest, replace the surround and firebox.

Could just paint it black and when buying your furniture/decor, look to tie in.

If considering stone, also add in the cost of brick removal. Look on line for what stone is appealing/suit your desired effect. Given your tile choice, suggest avoiding too rustic.

A room is a sum of its parts and perhaps waiting until flooring and furnishings are in place may help you make the best decision.

Please use anything except LVP. It looks, smells and feels like plastic and it is an environmental disaster

You have a colonial style home. Creating a modern fireplace surround is all wrong for the room and the house. Paint the brick is your easiest solution. Add a new mantle if you like. Do not over complicate this.
