I need design help!!

Where should the range hood chimney end in this kitchen? Where should backsplash tile stop? Ugh, there’s a lot going on here, but not too late to “fix!”

I'd tile right up to the underside of the hood

the idea of a backsplash above/behind a stove top is to protect the wall... so protect everything.

OMG that SS hood AND electrical switches. Not good planning.

I would have selected a hood that is wider than the range. You hood looks too small for the room.

These hoods are 20% larger than what you have.
Are you considering using the countertop as your backsplash???

Why is the stove not centered between the windows? Is that gas stove designed to be directly against a wall like that without a riser? Ignoring that the chimney needs to go to the ceiling and you can end the tile at the bottom of the hood

Phew! The stove, thankfully, is centered on the wall. It is just sort of an optical illusion that it’s not. Apparently, because we will be using a tiled backsplash, the stove did not necessitate a riser (as in pic). I totally agree with BeverlyFLADeziner that the range hood is too small. As we will be replacing that, do most degree that we should have the chimney go up to the ceiling? Also wondering if we should end the tile at the bottom of the range hood, or should we stop at the top of cabinets… or do we go all the way to the ceiling on that wall? I really appreciate everyone’s suggestions!

Have you read the stove specs for yourself? Tile doesn’t make a wall fireproof. Yay centered stove yes chimney has to go all the way to the ceiling. Tile can go all the way or stop at bottom of hood.

Someone suggested to tile the entire wall...behind the range hood chimney and across both sides ABOVE the cabinetry. Thoughts? (Not sure of the 2025 "trends.") . Thanks so much!

You don't have a good natural ending spot- are you going to tile above the cabinets too? What is the material? I would look at using the stone counter as backsplash on that wall ending at the hood.

@HALLETT & Co. Yeah, I'm thinking we should just tile that entire wall (above cabinets as well). We have Ocean Fantasy on the island and counters. While it's a large kitchen with 11 foot ceilings, we thought OF going up as backsplash, could be a real "miss." We decided to go with a biscuit colored (neutral) 4 x 13 tile, hoping to just make it "go away." In hindsight, maybe we should have just boxed in above the cabinets. This project began as a "casual" beach house, and has grown like crazy LOL!

I agree the range good should be bigger and the chimney going to the ceiling. I would keep backsplash simple by going up to range hood and below cabinets. That countertop is gorgeous and should be the boss in the space!
