Input needed!!!! Pool House and Backyard Layout

HI!

We are working on the design of our new inground pool and are struggling with a few elements and i would love some input!

  1. Grill location - currently located in between the house and pool house. Any better location for this? We do not want it under or inside the pool house because of smoke and grease. Also we live in WI, so having it somewhat close to the house is nice in the winter time if it's nice out and we want to grill.
  2. Pool House roof line - Do we like this roof line, or would a shed roof look more...pool house-esk or fit it better with the feel of our house?
  3. Concrete layout - How does everyone feel with the layout/lines of the concrete, fire pit etc.

Willing to take any and all thoughts/ideas/recommendations!!!!! Plans, actual house photo and inspo pics below!

I would try to find a place close to the kitchen for the grill. Especially if you like to grill year-round. And preferable under some form of shelter so you can use it in rain or snow.

People have no problem spending $500K on a house, and with that, expend a lot of design effort in lining up the cooktop with the island sink and fireplace, fussing with those vanity mirrors for sconce placement, and stressing over exact layout of the shower tile.

Yet when it comes to outdoor living and soft/hardscape, even though spending another $200K, the same effort is not considered important.

To be blunt, the proposed design just has a bunch of stuff placed without moving the design needle forward. The amenities are just, well, there.

Consider the outdoor space another house. Design "rooms" for functions, circulation and flow between them, the house, and from the front of house, views from inside and from outside, and beauty.

I like the shed roof look of the pool house you show, however, I do not know how practical that is for WI winters. The grill should have some sort of roof if you are using it year round - the back deck area should have had a much bigger foot print and the grill could go under the edge of that - assuming that is off the kitchen.

I would think that in WI you may use the fire pit more frequently and for more of the year than the pool. I would make that a bit larger and in a more convenient location to where you would exit the house but make sure to follow whatever safety standards there are for placement ( I am not familiar with that ) .

    This is a tough one.

Maybe turn the pool and have the firepit on the opposite side of the pool house?

Good luck! What a great backyard that is going to be!

What is the actual purpose of the pool house? How do you envision using it? That would make a difference in design elements and fixtures.

I would want the grill inside the pool house with a vent hood -like your inspiration photo.

    Or get a grill gazebo.
