bathroom floor tile help needed

I posted last year about my bathroom diy woes and received Albany great suggestions. Our project stalled because we were faced with decision paralysis. Now that is 11 months later of doing nothing, we’re ready to tackle this head on. Recap: our teal wall tile reads more dark green, but you can almost see teal in the right lighting and if you squint just so. We added the charcoal or dark grey floor tile, but we did not like the look at all. Now before we move forward, I’m hoping to get some floor tile suggestions.

So, we are thinking a light gray tile would work. The current dark charcoal feels too dark and oppressive. But what size? Is hexagonal a good choice? Don’t want penny tile or large tiles because the husband said the latter would be hard to level and the former is just not our style. Right now the dark floor tile is 18” square and it seems a little too big.

Any suggestions?

I think the darker charcoal tiles looks good with the teal tiles. If you think that they are too big, maybe a 4x12 slate herringbone floor:

Charcoal/dark gray slate from Brazil is very durable - I have it in my laundry room + one of my bathrooms (in the same 4x12 size + herringbone pattern as in above photo).

As far as what color floor to do with your tile, you'll need to look at photos + visit tile stores. Here are some ideas:

This looks like natural stone - but gives you an idea of what a light gray color would look like if you don't want natural stone:

If you aren't interested in genuine marble (as used in the next photo), you could do a faux marble hexagon - this photo also just shows you what a light grey/white floor would look like with your tile:

While the next photo doesn't include teal tile, there were quite a few bathroom with teal tile that used a diamond or checkerboard floor:

Visit a tile store and pick up a few samples. Once the floor is changed, consider a new shower curtain and window treatment.

You are asking for help with an aesthetic choice, and you are guaranteed to get many suggestions, but how helpful will they be. Do you suppose anyone here has you aesthetc sense? In the end you must make the choice.

This is not a life or death decision and anything you decide will undoubtedly be fine. Do as shirlpp suggests. Go to a tile store and look around.

The current dark gray floor is totally fine. I wouldn’t spend the money to rip put something brand new. Get some clean lined doors for the vanity in that same light wood, a better rug to tie in the green tile, a Roman shade for the window and a less fussy shower curtain.
