Hi Debra, many grow naturally here in my rough woodlands. Since they grow so well, I have gradually added ‘fancier’ varieties. In my woods there are native spring beauties, trout lilies, violets of many shades and prairie trillium galore.

Sorry all, I seem to have posted the same photo twice. I post in the gardenweb and I deleted it, but apparently Houzz didn’t get the message!

    Brunneras are good companions.

Jack Frost is a good grower for me.

    Variegata

    Looking Glass

They make seedlings. My most interesting ones come from Looking Glass like this big one.

Low growing campanulas are good with hostas. This is Birch hybrid.

Sweet woodruff (Galium odorata) mixes well with mediums or larger. I find it can overwhelm smaller hostas.

All grown from seed. Before 9/11 it was easy to order seeds from anywhere so I got my primroses seed from Barnhaven France.

This one produced lots of seedlings I am looking forward what offsprings will look like. It takes few years to maturity though.

My favorite hosta companions are heuchera and epimedium.

I do have several companion plants but not too many good pictures of them. Several Heuchera that disappear after a few years. I do lots of annuals interplanted amongst the hosta.

A couple I maybe shouldn't have tried as they can be invasive and difficult to keep under control (vinca & creeping jenny).

    Lots of Columbine early

    False Lily of the Valley

I forget what these are but so pretty if the deer/rabbits don't get them.

Some annuals - doing less as I add more hostas

    Bleeding Hearts

European Wild Ginger along the path & Rhododendron above.

Can I count moss? I let a lot of it grow along the edges

old_dirt, ALL your photos this year have been spectacular! The two showing your paths and all the pretty plants around them took my breath away. They're so beautiful.

    Arailia - Sun King

    old_dirt..I enjoyed your photos too..

I love all of the hosta forum photos 💕..

I've mentioned this but it made me feel better so I'll say it again..I forget the name but a UK gardener said he considers the fancy heuchera as annuals..isn't it good to know losing heucheras isn't our fault?..

this made me laugh but I don't know exactly what it means..

    I have pips..

I need to add more flowering companions for color, thanks all for the ideas.

Beth - My granddaughter used to kick off her shoes and walk barefoot on the moss path, called it her fairy garden.

I didn't mention ferns as companions. Ostrich Ferns, another one that can be challenging to keep under control.

    Ostrich Fern

Sun King - Second try, the first one got eaten to the ground by deer (I assume).

Creeping Jenny - Trying to get it just in between the stones, wants to spread too much.

Laurie..my pips are my potted hostas living in an "artificial" environment (my garage)..the inground hostas aren't up..

what a huge collection of perennials!..I forget..how many years have you lived here?..

March 23 I've lived in my home 20 years..

Ann I have lived her a loooong time. 43 years.

Laurie..wow!..that explains a lot!..I've wondered how you could have so many good sized plants everywhere on your property!..now I feel better about my smaller collection haha..

Laurie, you’re another one who has a spectacular garden! So many beautiful plants. I enlarged all your photos to have a good look.

I hope you’re feeling better and regaining your strength. At least you got it out of the way before it’s time to get out into the garden where you are.

Oh, so nice!!!!Peren, such lushness!I did move my astilboides and small aruncus, kirengosoma and the Rocket ligularia. Hopefully they will fill up like yours.

Beth, have you found variegated irid needs more sun?

Nicholworth, my trillium in the forest all purple. If not for buckthorn forest would be real pretty with natives

lindalana I find my variegated Iris seem to grow anywhere. The plant is pretty but the bloom is OK not spectacular like some Iris. Still they are a nice backdrop with a different shape.
