How was your winter?

I did not think it was bad, we had some cold but some snow cover too... Cept now I should have had some bulbs started and my heucheras and primroses used to be semi evergreen... Nothing this year showing. Like nada. I should have snow drops and winter aconitum poking thru by now. Hubby's bday on Feb 20 and unless it is full snow we always had snowdrops. 😟

On a good note we had really informative Winter Symposium Hosta at Brookfield WI last weekend.

Presentations were top notch, good food and good company.

Started my winter sowing.

Good for you to get your wintersowing started. I never did get around to it. ….Barefoot in the snow, I try to avoid that. 😊

My winter got an early start with snow covering my yard and staying put pretty much for four months. Whenever it melted enough to see ground, it would snow again soon after. That’s a normal winter for us, and we’ve gotten a good snowpack in the mountains, which I am grateful for. The southern part of the state didn’t fare as well.

I didn’t get any cleanup done in fall, so I have a lot of soggy, wet stuff to clean up now. I always feel behind before I ever get started. I think I’ll be able to start working outside this coming weekend. I’m ready for spring!

is your walking barefoot in the snow a recent photo?..if so wow!..

    winter 2024/2025 wasn't my favorite..lol

we had some bitter cold this winter 🙁..the cold temperature on one day set a record..

we had 10.5 inches of snow on January 6th..a weatherman said this was our biggest snow in decades..the big pile by the curb lasted until March 3rd!..it melted quite a while ago everywhere else..

    some people don't mind winter..I do 😝..

    I prefer warm weather..

it should be better soon..my daffodils are coming up..the forecast says 71 on Tuesday..

I'm in Texas, and we had record cold as well. we had about 4 days of under freezing temps down to 15 degrees or so. Fortunately, this time we had enough energy to keep everyone warm. It was mid February, so I still haven't gotten my gas bill for that time.

My hosta re beginning to pip. My squash casserole is sending up those pretty little purple nubs. I guess it has to do with the length of the day, as we haven't had much warm weather until this week.

I guess it's about time to see what needs repotting, as all my hosta grow in pots. As I look out the back window, I see the squirrels digging in the pots to find their buried acorns. The little buggers are fat though, as my Texas Red Oak had a mast year. Last year, our more common Shumard Red Oaks had a mast year. So, the squirrels are fat and happy.

First signs of life this year

And of course indoor life goes full force.

Sandydslopes, walking barefoot is great pleasure for me and I love snow unless I have to drive 😔. I think IL here had more proportional snow cover previous so plants felt happier, my grass is dead too. What temps are you expecting that you can work outside over weekend?

Nicholworth, I moved up 30 miles up north and does it make a difference! How much life do you see now? I am ready for anything that does not look dead...

Debra, is your we soil still frozen? mine is, maybe weekend 60 will do the trick.

Bkay, my heated floors in 2 bathrooms give me a lot of pleasure but electric bill is ouch. I pulled few pots that I did not have energy to plant last year, I think some did not make it...

More snow! I was expecting rain, but we got about 3” overnight.

Lindalana, when I wrote that, my temps were showing high 40s, low 50s for this weekend, but now the temperature has dipped and the beds have snow on them again. So I guess the house gets vacuumed, afterall. 😊

I haven’t been out to do close up inspections yet, but the new growth I can see is my bearded Iris sending up its green spears around the yard.
