Question for Kitchen Cabinet Pros PLEASE!

last year

Hello,

We lost our newly renovated house (every sq inch inside and out) in Hurricane Helene. We put our heart and soul into this as it was to be our forever home. We have to make tough decisions and really have no idea if we’re staying or selling. We would love to stay but it well cost us in reality $900k. I won’t go into all the decisions and scenario’s we are contemplating here for the sake of time. I have a lot of anxiety and am overwhelmed so I hope you can help. All of our cabinitry in kitchen/bar was Harmony/Bentwood. I am getting quotes to duplicate the order of $98k in the kitchen alone. Are there any brands that has frameless cabinetry that you could recommend that we could have the same look but save some money in cost? (I looked at SmithPort but didnt like their white cabinets) I appreciate your help! I‘ve included some pictures. FYI, we will be doing a stained island instead of painted this time. Thank you in advance.

I am sorry about your loss but I also do not think there is a cabinet company worth 98K for cabinets. I use Ikea I love them they have all the bells and whistles I want I think there are many cabinet companires in the US that build good quality I looked up this company and see nothing out of the ordinary from them. Is the kitchen you picture yours from the old house . I am not saying you should do Okea but 98K for what apper to be shaker cabinets that every maker has is not worth it. FYI I run a catering biz from my home so often 6 people working in my kitchen I have all Ikea cabinets some all stainless all the rest high gloss white all drwers Blum hardware all soft close and 18n yrs old not one issue and the whole space with appliances cost less than 40K >

Patricia, I‘m familiar with your posts and using Ikea. I agree that its a crazy price! All of our cabinets will cost around $180k. !!! (Crazy!) We just can’t do this. Unfortunately, every place is asking for retainers to get pricing so I‘m trying to find in advance which brands would be better suited in advanced. I like Ikea cabinets and have them in a few rentals. Unfortunaty at the pricepoint of this house, Ikea will not work. Thank you for answering I really appreciate it!

I live in SWFL & have been flooded and hit with Ian and Helene. I am selling because of insurance premiums and because I cannot keep picking up the tab for damage the insurance deductible will not cover. Between the Flood and Property insurance there are $15k deductibles. I've lost landscaping, trees & had to contribute to special assessments in my HOA. It's untenable and it's going to get worse.

I put in an IKEA kitchen which I'm very happy with..........except that all the doors turned yellow after about 4 years. It's maddening because the kitchen works, but the pure white is now yellowish.

    Think about moving.

I have done IKea kitchens in many home price points and have never had a client who thought they were a down grade I design kitchens from scratch not using the planner ever . So the kitchens I do look custom and they have gone in multi milliom dollar homes no issue . I will say most buyers do not know the difference about cabinets even if you do I can think of so many places to spend that money for a beautiful home. BTW I have had in my home IKea high gloss white cabinets for 18 yrs and they have never yellowed and my kitchen is used. I think you are overwhelmed at this point and for good reason but please rethink how you spend money to get a home you love again

Gosh I am so sorry to hear about what you’re dealing with -

not a pro but what wondering if there is there a way to change the layout and have a lot fewer cabinets - maybe add a pantry instead? Maybe only have lower cabs with drawers and then a pantry for food & additional storage

Can you give your general location? We used a custom cabinet maker in SW FL when we built in 2021. We paid less than that for a larger kitchen.

@chispa Up in Tampa Bay. I had a bad experience with a custom cabinet maker and while looking at others, I find they are busy and time wise would not be beneficial. We lost all of our cabinets so its not just a kitchen.

If you were doing a high end wood kitchen where grain lines needed matching MAYBE you would need to spend what you are but you are putting in white cabinets. No one knows if they are wood or MDF. Most people assume a cheaper grade of wood. Listen to the advise you are getting. You have been hoodwinked into thinking a buyer or you could tell the difference. Your carpentry shop is part used car salesmen it seems.

@Dana - my builder in the Tampa Bay area uses this custom cabinet firm Custom Cabinet. Anita and Caren did a fabulous job on our cabinets and also did my daughter's kitchen. If you don’t want to spend the $$ on custom she uses shiloh and can do additional customization for you. Their eclipse line is frameless. I did custom in my kitchen/great room and Shiloh in our office. My daughter also did Shiloh. I know she is very busy but I would find out her timeframe if you are interested.

Dana I am so sorry for your loss!. I understand completely years ago we went through a horrible hurricane.
I hope you can find some cabinets in the mid price range. I am not sure how durable IKEA cabinets are.
I wish you the best of luck with this. Please come back and post pictures when you are done.

Ikea Vedhamn will work at your price point. Pair them with Taj counters and matching slab backsplash. Use Hurst Hardwood in FL for European Oak engineered flooring.

Another European Oak cabinet option is Hallmark Home.

The floor and cabinets blend because they're both European Oak.
