Mature rose leaves stuck together

Can anyone advise on mature rose leaves being stuck together? When I google this, I’m not getting anything specific, and I’m not seeing photos that exactly look like my photos. When I look at rose specific diseases, it’s also not specifying this, so I’m assuming it’s more of a general problem(?)

I noticed it yesterday on two of my rose plants (2 of 70, so not wide spread at this time). Also the two plants that have it are about as far apart in my garden as can be. One rose has more sun than the other. They are getting watered the same amount.

I tried to peel the leaves apart. I did not see any eggs, insects, pests. It did not feel sticky. when I peeled them apart, it tore the leaves.

Can anyone share their experience or help? Thanks in advance .

I have seen this from time to time and thought it was insect related and ignored it.

Is it possible that it is some sort of minor frost damage?

Sheila, thank you for your response. I try to be measured when I respond to insects, as I have been in the situation of trying to ”fix” things that have resulted in more damage than leaving it alone and letting it resolve on it’s own.

Once I ”helped a plant to death” when it had a lot of aphids, and I sprayed with a soap solution that defoliated the plant. when it occurred later, I largely ignored it and manually squished some, and the aphid population rised and fell with the seasons and caused minimal to no damage. I will likely watch this and see what happens.

Mad Gallica, all this foliage developed after the frost.
