Romantic white climbing rose

Sombreuil climbing rose was the rose I didn't plan on adding to my garden until I saw it in real life at Antique Rose Emporium in 2021 or 2022. The online photos I found back then totally didn't do a fair justice for this beauty. It resembles the look of Bolero (or Bolero resembles it), but it is much more vigorous in terms of health and vigor. So glad to have this beauty and highly recommend to anyone looking for a white climbing rose.

Your Sombreuil is beautiful, Roses in Houston! I hope mine turns out that well. Mine is young, only in the ground one year, and I’m training up a mesquite tree. I hope for a good show this spring. The thrips destroyed the few blooms I got last year.

Star of the Republic is a favorite of mine too! Here’s a photo of last year in my garden.

Yikes it's MAGNIFICENT !! so that's what Sombreuil looks like. Years ago i tried to read up on it hoping to buy one , but the warning of thorns scared me off. I can't imagine it being any worse than some sword bushes I have now, early and vigilant management is key. You are so lucky to have such a remarkable rose.

Did you see Star of the Republic ? it's one I have wanted to try for a very long time. It was out of stock when I bought others instead ; my Vick's Caprice and Sweet Frances both became Vole victuals. It's so hard to chose among so many, it looks like you chose well !

Your Sombreuil is so beautiful, Roses inHouston, and it's going to be magnificent when it's more mature and covered with flowers. That's one of the beauties of the old roses, that they improve every year and keep going for a very long time.

Star of the Republic is breathtaking in these photos and I wish I had ordered it from ARE, but I thought it might be too similar to Sweet Frances, which I already had in the ground. Oh well, perhaps next year....

Sombreuil was a favorite of mine in my last garden and you’ve captured it well Roses In Houston. I miss it's wonderful fragrance, too! Great pics of SotR Judi & Sheila!

Thank you all for your comment, feedback, and experience. Sombreuil is my first and only antique rose and of course it is a beautiful gateway to explore the old rose world for me.

I don’t have Star of Republic, that one is beautiful. I got Prairieview Prince last year, it's a beautiful rose. I think I will visit Antique Rose Emporium again this year to get a few more rosed, not sure which ones yet.

Roses InHouston, what a beautiful climber. I'm glad to learn of your YouTube channel. I really like subscribing to the channels of rose gardeners to see how roses perform in real home gardens.
