Should fabricator seal the marble vanity top during installation?

1) Should the fabricator seal a marble vanity top when they install a vanity top? It appears that the Nexxus shampoo bottle has left marks in the marble after only a few months. I notice discoloring (circular rings) on the surface next to one sink . In a different place, when I moved my shampoo bottle in my shower ledge, underneath there is a dark gray "blob " area in the marble. I have had marble in my bathroom before renovation for 20 years and I never once saw my marble "stained" or discolored.

(2) If the fabricator also provides marble pieces (such as for thresholds in shower and bathroom entry way) for the contractor to install would this be up to the contractor to seal the marble or is it the fabricator's responsibility who sold me the marble pieces? Thank you.

I'd think the installer should seal the slab AND should explain to you what he did /what materials he used so you will be ready to keep up the maintenance.

But we see thread after thread on this site about the difficulty in marble's upkeep /stains in marble. Why don't we just quit this material? At its best, it looks cold.

Your first two pics look like it is etched and your last picture looks like water absored into the stone. Sealing will help to prevent staining but it will not do anything for etching,

Slow it down slightly is really about it. It will give you a bit more time before the stain soaks in. And as mentioned, sealing does nothing for etching. As far as whowould seal it, that depends on the fabricator and the contract. Typically it would be sealed after install and most likely of the last things in the kitchen to be done as the tops are typically covered immediately after install to protect them for real damage.

That isn't a fabricator issue. That is a selection issue, and not understanding what you selected.

The only permanent cure for your problem short of replacement is the restoration of the surfaces, then the application of MORE Anti-Etch. You can't stop etching from a can.

Polished marble requires no sealant. It looks etched.

Another variable might be the type/quality of your marble. Maybe your old marble was of better quality from Italy and your new marble is of lesser quality from China/India?

Polishing provides no protection against etching or staining.

What do you all think of Marble Armor? I talked with a restoration company yesterday and they said they could get rid of the etching. They cannot help where the shampoo soaked into the marble. But they recommend Marble Armor.
