Some color to offset all the lightness. Larger TV hung on the wall. Drapery panels on the lower window. Looks like you already have solar shades on the upper windows.

Your space feels a little generic and neutral so I'd off set it with a tad bit of color and something that has a sense of detail.

This rug from Room and Board in either color would be nice. Black is already a nice accent color in your home to match. But blue ties in all of that great sky and water you see from the doors.

Are the drop cloths to protect against children? or animals?

You have a good start to it all. May we have measurements of the room? And pictures of the room with your back to those wonderful windows? What a beautiful view!

There are no rules that say you have to have a rug. Because you are struggling with the color of the rug, I would suggest that you decorate the rest of the room and get the rug last to match any art or other pieces that you put into the room. That is if you really really want a rug. I don’t use them in my house because they collect dust and hair, especially animal hair. But then that is my personal preference.
