I need help finding a part number!

last year

I need to replace the Carburetor on my dads 42544x8B 1998 Murray 42 Riding mower, however, the parts listed in the manual from Murry doesn't list it! I have searched everywhere I can think of, and posting here is my second to last resort. Tomorrow I will be going to my local small engine repair shop, but they are not very reliable these days. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was curious so did some searching….. it’s probably a Briggs & Stratton and according to what they say, you need either the engine or carburetor number, then you should be able to find a kit on Amazon. See here: Find a Murray riding mower carburetor

There are sites online that provide parts for everything, Depending on the product they may have complete exploded drawings with part numbers.

To find them search the web with a string that contains the model number and part

ie "Murray 42500 carburetors." I have found parts for some quite old stuff, doing this search.

I once looked for a carburetor on an old mower. I did it by searching the engine number, not the mower itself, because often the details are indicated that way. If you have an engine number, try to search by it. Sometimes the right part can be found in this way, even if it is not specified in the manual.
