How often do you stand in your hall with the door open? No one will ever look at that wall/table and visually see center with the door open. I would put it under the skull because it gets it out of the way of people coming in. Function. I hope the table is no wider than the door jam we see at the right closest to the camera. The barn door is a clue as to how crowded that hall gets.

Once you add the narrow entry table (I agree with non-centered so it is clear of the open front door), consider whether to add a longer rug that takes you up to the entry table. Some of the rug sites allow you to upload a photo and add in different rugs/sizes.

Depending on the rug you choose, painting the interior of the front door a color may look really good.

A mirror over the table may be more useful than the skull or other art.
