Looking to buy this retro 1980 custom built house (see comments) but this main living space leaves me a bit stumped. I'm not opposed to lime washing the brick or possibly painting.. you can see that the brick covers most of the wall in the sunken area but the fireplace isn't centered on that which leaves me with a lot of brick wall space that I'm unsure how to style... This would be the main living space so my big TV would have to be mounted above the fireplace and I was going to make a big golden DIY frame for it so it doesn't stick out so poorly. Then there's also the wood paneled wall with the shelf racks on the one side...I'd like this space to feel light and cozy and airy but I don't want to completely white out everything... You can also see this is a retro sunken living room style situation, so there is the wooden railings that separate the 2 upper spots on either side that I'm torn on what to do with but I'm leaning toward gutting the railing unless someone has a better idea. This is a big home that's a bit of a fancy custom built time capsule of its time which leads me with lots of modernizing to do so any big renno right now isnt in the budget...I feel it would be cool to honor some of the quirky charm of the home, so ideas that can mix both modernization and old quirky charm would be ideal but any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated 🫶🏼🙂
