Snowball Trees and the Japanese Maple trees are beginning to bloom

Purple Azalea Bush; The polar cold 3 years ago hit this bush hard

The daylilies are waking up and so are the weeds. Yes, I am still putting down cardboard.

The pansies have been beautiful; I put frost covers over them when we had the extremem col and they survived without "melting".

All of the clematis have blooms; the first one bloomed today but I didn't see it until it was almost dark.

Just a bit of the work in progress on our house. He is currently screening the area under the roof. As you can see, it is indeed a work in progress. And that is that for the photos today.

I should have waited to post about first scapes until I uploaded the photos.

Thank you, Sherry. We all have our "wish I could grow it" plants. Here it is Peonies and Lilacs, but it is too hot for them.and where you are it may be Azaleas and Gardenias. The red azaleas are now beginning to peak, We have been at almost 90 this week but we are supposed to be more normal for a few days next week. WE have been short rain, so the lilies are needing water.

Kay - The Spring flowers are beautiful! I will miss my azaleas and snowball bushes this Spring. Your new deck looks wonderful! It will be nice to have the part under the roof screened.

Thank you Debra. I have a wonderful son-in-law qho has torn down the deck and the front porch and rebuilt them much better He extended the porch five feet perside ad will extend the roof as well. He also put up the beautiful steps on the deck and will put lattice on the bottom part.

Thank you Nancy. Our son-in -law is the one doing the work and he is so conscientious! I am very much looking forward to sitting and watching the birds feed. He also redid the front porch, adding five additional feet to each side and new very wide steps with a set of steps to the garden on the end. He will be adding additional roofing to cover the new additions also. And He bought 4X4 posts to mount a couple of birdhouses in my garden too. He is waiting for me to tell him where to put them but I intend to dig the holes myself. He is a jewel.

I will look forward to seeing the deck work finished! Sounds wonderful. I love your Azaleas! The pansies are pretty too. I need to get some.

Its great to see your spring blooms. Things are just getting started here, dafs are opening today. Ilove seeing the azaleas too. People try growing them here……its mostly a failure.

With all thse storms moving through, Kay, you must have been on the edge of many. I wish I could share some of the torrential rains we have been getting with more to come! We have been very fortunate in the tornadic activity with some touching down very close to us. I lost a tree in my backyard to what was possibly straight line winds but it fell at a great angle with no damage done. No structural damage here although some neighbors were not so lucky.

The renovations look great! I see sharing a cup of coffee with you on that deck!!!

Thank you so much for writing as I have been concerned as to how you were faring in these ongoing storms. OH no! A tree down is a mess but blessedly, no damage. We have been dry all the last year and are still in the "abnormally dry" stage. Our ridge deflected the weather for the last several days but is supposed to break down for the Sunday storms. Rain will be welcome, but too much rain s bad in its own way too and has the effect of slowing down gardening but your plants should be lush.

I wish you were close enough to share that coffee with me. Terry is even screening under to floor to prevent any insects joining the fun. I will send you some photos when he has finished.

We are supposed to have frost or near frost a couple of days next week. Talk about a change! It has been very close to 90 all week while you have endured storms. And we have had strong gradient winds, but no damage.

Kay: Your garden looks great and I'm sure you are going to enjoy that deck and screened in deck area. Wish we had done a screened in deck. Hope you got the much needed rain.

Thank you julia. We did indeed get the much needed rain, and the daylilies look much happier. I have always thought I would enjoy a screened porch or deck area and I am really looking forward to using it. You could probably get your current area screened if you really wanted it. I have a couple of aluminum chaises and a couple of chairs that I have had for years and bought new cushions for them and I do enjoy looking forward to morning coffee out there. We are going to add a small ceiling fan to add a breeze to it and I think that will be nice.
