These two colors do not go together well. I like a lot of color in my space, which I get in the wall art and accessories. Depends on your preferences. Living room lighting is best NOT on the ceiling. Start at the very least with a table lamp or wall sconce at chest height. Best design is to consider the big picture instead of the room in parts. All elements of the room need to be addressed - ceiling, walls, floor, furniture. How do they go together with other items in the room? Do they clash or mesh? I like either all warm colors in a space or all cool colors - not both, but that's me. Warm colors: off-white, beige, tan, brown, peach, golden yellow, olive green, orange, gold. Cool colors: royal blue, purple, black, navy, bright white, ice cool pastels, blue red, true gray (not mixed with other colors), kelly green, pine green, forest green, silver.

Blue rug? Patterned? I would face the sectional to the window, mount the TV and put the credenza on that short wall ... try spinning the dining table in the alcove.

It's possible that your dining room table should be rotated 90 degrees. Without having dimensions of the space I'm not sure, but have you tried it that way?

How about putting the t v in the recessed area and facing the sofa to it? Paint or wallpaper the back wall . Put the table and chairs behind the sofa. More photos, please.

I going with the wishbone dining chairs to give you direction when you purchase more furniture pieces....the style is mid-century and Scandinavian style.

So far you are doing very good with selecting basic pieces that can be influenced by the items you now place around them.

All the furnishings are CONTEMPORARY or MODERN.

Now depending on what style items you add to the room you can push your style in different directions.

Modern sliding into MCM . I am not a lover of baby blue in most styles so I guess we need to see that and understand thtatchoice . I usually wait for all the other items in a space before choosing rugs and pillows etc I often get art to start driving the color scheme and for sure if it is original art . Love the DR stuff so IMO go get a huge piece of art for that bare wall in the DR to strat the ball rolling.

BTW style is what you like out together for your own enjoyment and also done one step at a time only get what you love always the best . It takes time to put a new to you room together . I find rooms take on a personality done with things yu love . I love all my art so I tend to do what works with that.I love those huge murals BTW

Just a suggestion:

I would move the black cabinet into the dining room to act as a buffet & place a canvas above it. The cabinet will work with your chairs.

I would use a wall hung unit for under the TV

Maybe find a cabinet that matches your flooring

I think you could select a rug that makes bigger statement. You don't have to select anything I suggested, but you can at least try some rugs out online to see how they might appear. Lovely home.

I might at least consider a mural for your huge wall before I selected an area rug.

I agree that the black cabinet doesnt do muc for the living room, but the dining room looks too small to fit it. Do you have a foyer you can ise it in?
