I think your maroon colored roof might limit your options for color.

I'd start by removing the overgrown shrubs hiding your house.

Agree with the gray/greens.^ Good with your roof color and nice with a soft white trim.

I believe these are Benjamin Moore’s Saybrook Sage.

And with a blue door.

Another nice option for a light gray/green…Sherwin Wms. Oyster Bay.

I know you mentioned you would like a light colour but I thought this blue worked very nicely with your roof with a white door and trim, and the white picket fence, that I decided to show it to you.

I show white shutters but only on the front window.

I also suggest you work on the landscaping staring with the removal of the huge shrubs that hide the house. In the front with the gable section, I show a wide white trellis to give interest to that wall. I've also removed the heavy looking canopy at the front door and replaced it with a pergola where the pillars can sit on the bricks on each side of the stairs.

Sagebrook sage is very similar to the green on the house now. Is that what you like?

I like the green you have and think cream trim would look good. Also like the idea of a blue door. Sagebrook Sage green is a good color for your house. Unlike above, I prefer the roof you have over your front door, rather than an open trellis type. Its a nice place to stand, if you are visiting and its raining. You could use bigger light fixtures by your front door. The one that is there, doesnt seem to put out enough light.

The greens look like a good choice with the current roof, and when you need a new roof, consider going gray.

Thank you everyone I have already removed all the bushes that are along the front side of the house. I kept the side bushes still but I cut them down quite a bit. I’m honestly leaning towards a more blue green. I like Benjamin Moore see Saybrook sage, but I do want a color with some blue undertone. I feel saybrook sage is a bit broen green for me

In terms of the garden, I think a cottage garden would be great. I live in a very hot area so I have to go with plants that are drought proof and that can survive really warm weather in the summer.

There’s this house that I took a picture of where I really like the exterior wall color. I went up to the door and asked the homeowner if she knew what color the walls were and she said no it was a custom color and that it was by Sherwin-Williams. Does anyone have any colors that are close to this?

Your roof is brownish and clearly visible from all sides, so that's why people are suggesting Saybrook Sage. I had it on my previous house and liked it. It's poular for a reason. If you're not changing the roof you have to work with it. Get a large piece of drywall, prime it and paint two color coats of a color you like and hold it up to the house, step back and see how it looks. You should have a white border around the sample board so the current color of the house doesn't skew your perception of the new color(s). Look at the board on all sides of the house, at different times of day, and under clear and cloudy skies.

I think BM's Historical Colors palette has a lot of great colors for exteriors, so if Saybrook Sage doesn't work for you, look at some of the others. Exterior colors get washed out in broad daylight, so if you want color you can't go too light. But colors that look bright on chips can look electric on exteriors which is why you need a sample board. When a color is all over your house it can look quite different than what you expect.

I agree with kandrewspa…colors can really look washed out and lighter on the exterior. The Oyster Bay I posted is a good example.

It's very hard to pick colours off the computer as every screen shows colours differently. Here's what I came up with showing the siding colour of the bluish green house you posted: Magnolia Paint with comparables from SW and BM.

Also keep in mind that when painting outdoors the colours will turn out looking lighter than the sample so it's important to test the paint before going ahead with the whole project.

thank you for all the responses and for making my decision easier to make! my gut feeling is telling me saybrook Sage from Benjamin Moore. The problem is I have a Home Depot gift card at $500 so I would like to color match this sage color to behr paint. Any suggestions on how to do that?

You would have to ask the paint person at Home Depot if they can mix and get an accurate color. I would pick up a sample of the sage and put it on a poster, and then see how well, they can match it at home depot.

If you want to lean to a slightly blue-er color here is another Behr paint to consider.

You HAVE TO paint poster board and place it on every side of your house in order to assess how any color will look. On sunny and cloudy days, all paints look different.

I took everyone’s recommendation and painted on white posterboard paper. I also painted another piece of poster white paper with the trim and it’s drying. I had to get a bluish green because it’s something that’s been on my mind for a while. I’m also going to paint some of these colors on the house, so I’ll keep you guys updated.

Are those samples 2 coats on large sample boards? As mentioned before, keep in mind the colour once applied outdoors will look lighter than the sample. Look at the samples in the sun, in the shade, and at different times of day.

Ok i will. Yes two coats on each, they are still drying. whats the best way to see how it looks with my roof?

Place the painted poster boards as high as you can (safely) and tape them to the siding. Then step back and squint.m Prescott Green looks good right now but it may look too pale in strong sunshine.

If it’s any consolation, the last time I painted the exterior of a traditional colonial, I was going for a deep green blue. I ended up,with BM River Blue but not until I asked EVERYONE what they thought of all the samples around the house. Ultimately, finding the right color made us very happy.

Yes i have already narrowed it down to the blue colored one and savebrook sage. prescott green will look washed out.

i now need to go put the samples and paint samples on each side of the house!
