Regarding the fish tank-it looks like there is a lot of light/sun coming in the front window. Will that be a problem for the fish tank to be right of fireplace? You mention you will have two offices-could the fish tank be in one of them?

Someone had suggested putting a palm beside it to block light. I was probably going to hang some black out or thicker curtain to block light since it will get really hot in the summer with all the windows

Sorry, I just saw that you already have that sofa. Since it's there, show us how it looks if you float it near the entryway and facing the fireplace. I also didn't realize that fish tank shouldn't be in too sunny a location, so your tall plant solution seems like a good idea. Would the tank and cabinet fit on that tilted wall towards the kitchen?

Are you relating at all to the suggestions about warming up the space with light wood pieces? Or the suggested palette of the rug, which would work with your current sofa. Again, a couple armchairs in an accent color would brighten all that gray.

The tank is a bit too big for that wall near the kitchen, so its either here or in a office (i wont have space in mine and my husband doesnt want it in his plus those carpeted so any water spill will be more messy).

I like your suggestions, but is there anyway we can leverage the pieces we have (pictured); i think your suggestions are great for once we are a bit more comfortable and have the funds for a big remodel, but right now - I need to leverage 2nd hand/what we have with a few new pieces. Is light wood what you would suggest? The tank stand is not super light but its lighter than walnut. I was thinking of trying to find pieces (like the TV stand which i agree should be large for that other wall space!) that would be closer to that tone.

We havent moved in yet (we close this week) so i can post your layout once we are in :) Right now I am trying to plan an aquire the pieces. Any thoughts on bar stool colors for the kitchen?

You can find lots of secondhand pieces on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Your search terms for a light wood, wide console/cabinet/ for under the TV: sideboard, console, buffet, credenza, dresser. Make sure you get one that is very wide. If you find one that is too dark, paint it off white or refinish it. Hold out for a really beautiful piece since you have a bright upscale living room and you'll be viewing it all the time. The piece you have for the fish tank is very nice.

Thanks for the measurements but can we have the full length and width of the room as well as the width of the fireplace, front door wall and the opening into the kitchen? Sorry, but that will help a lot.

Hi sorry! ive been sick with COVID. so the fireplace is 54 inches but the marble its on is 66 inches. The full length is 212 inches and the width is 118 inches. i dont have the measurememt of the opening to the kitchen (our closing was delayed due to a repair). hope that helps!

also do you think this TV console would work its 70 in long 24 high amd 15.5 deep or is it too small/wrong color?i feel like it would go with out coffee table and incorporate that lighter color

The console seems to match what you have, so it could work but not sure. Good thing is, you can always stain it to match the other furniture. Can't build the room today. I will have to do that in the morning.

Hello Lanie, Hope you are feeling better. COVID can be so difficult! Here are some pictures of the rendition. We used the suggestions from the previous post but tweaked them a bit to fit the room and also so that the front door clears the furniture.

View from the kitchen. We put the fish tank on the wall near the bathroom. It has an outlet behind it and is close to water.

We went with a darker brown in the wood furniture. It complements the taupe couch and chairs. You can get dark brown stains for your furniture, coffee table, etc. We have done that many times in order to get the colors we want. Just a thought.

In this rendition you see:

• Your couch at 96" x 43" deep.
• Your area rug at 8' x 5' . A larger rug would be better.
• The TV console at 70" x 24" high x 15.5" deep. With a second one to match on the right side of the fireplace. Yes, it does work under the 55" TV and just fits that are that is 73" on both sides of the fireplace. It is stained a dark brown.
• Two matching chairs on either side of the couch. Yes, the one is in the open space in the dining area.
• Your Lift top coffee table stained a dark brown to match the console and side tables.
• Two small round coffee tables.
• One small two seater MCM couch in front of the windows with a small thin couch table behind it. The couch table has two Tea lamps on it.
• One tall floor lamp on the right side of the couch near the front door.
• One potted plant in the corner, to fill the space behind the front door.
• Artwork behind the couch, over the fireplace and second console.
