Need Help: Small Room for Twin Girls

last month

We have a very small room that must house two year old twin girls. We have 2 dressers 2 cribs and 2 night stands. We also have a rug and a mini fridge that must stay. I need help arranging the room. I would like to add their name signs back to the walls but have no clue how w the beds being a little off center. I’m at a lost and really want to get this room done first. Thanks for all suggestions!!!! See pictures.

You're going to have to draw out a measured floor plan. Impossible to tell from your pictures. I hope your TV is attached to the wall, it's not safe sitting on a dresser.

Agree with Cathi for getting detailed help. But, for the name signs, why can’t each be centered over each bed? Doesn’t matter if beds aren’t centered on walls. I’d put them high enough that they can’t be pulled off wall.

I cannot tell anything about the room form thepics. I do however wonder why a huge TV in the sapce and do they each need a huge dresser is there no closet ? I am snoopy I guess why a min fridge in the space at all? They will be out of the cribs soon so why not do the cribs in the corner then the names above each crip but I really need to see the floor plan.

Have you thought outside the box to have one full size bed instead of two singles? Those dressers are HUGE. I don't have enough clothes to fill one of them.

Dressers: One is for clothes for two kids and the other for pull-up and wipes. Trust me, they are full. Refrigerator: it’s a multi-floor home and we have had the fridge since they were newborns consuming countless bottles. Now they’re drinking just 6 a day

You still have no answered if there is a closet . Bottles IMO thay should be done with bottles but thats me. Pullups should soon be done too then that will free up lots of space but a closet could solve all those issues. They also will be out f cribs soon so then there will be a different sized beds to deal with .

For any suggestions a floor plan showing all dimensions, doors and windows is needed. Are you planning on keeping the cribs or replacing them with single beds?

There is a small closet next to the TV.
The cribs convert to toddler beds then a full size bed.
We can remove the refrigerator as they are only drinking milk at night. While they are potty trained, they do have accidents at night so they do wear pull ups at night. I don’t have a floor plan but here are more pics.

At age 2, they don't need cribs and are going to outgrow them in less than a year. So, I'd either put off my plan for 6 months or invest in twin beds. They will outgrow toddler beds, too, so I recommend twin beds. Antique stores are often a great source. We got two mahogany sleigh beds for the price of IKEA. The girls don't need two dressers. They can share a dresser. It's nice to have your own, but if room is an issue, have them share.

I'm uncomfortable with a TV in the bedroom. Nowadays, it's so hard to find the time to read, but reading is really highly correlated with success in school and high test scores. If you're not set up for reading with a bookshelf, books and regular trips to the library, you won't raise readers. You really have to keep fighting to raise readers with good literacy skills and that starts really young.

Floor plan showing a washable rug they can play on, a rounded corner floating TV cabinet, etc.

I don’t have design advice, just want to say the girls are so cute! Enjoy them!

    Wow, your girls are adorable.

Just get out a piece of paper and draw a little stick figure like plan with measurements for every wall, window, and door. Any advice given here won't matter if it doesn't fit in the room.

Are you maximizing your closet storage well? Are you donating/getting rid of clothes that they don't fit in anymore? I simply cannot believe that their diapers, wipes, and clothes fit need that huge dresser. What do you store in the nightstand drawers?

Smart advice below about waiting until you are done with cribs to do anything.

Make a tiny corner with baskets of books. Reading is the best thing you can do with developing brains and having books in the room is important. You'll have room for it once the fridge is gone.

Strap that TV to a wall or mount it on a wall. My friend is a pediatrician and alerted me to the high percentage of preventable deaths caused by kids under 5 having TVs topple on them.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting 's corner set up makes sense for toddler beds too and will allow the greatest amount of floor space for playing.

Often we speak from experience I watch my daughters in law stress over things that are fleeting and wish I could just make them understand just enjoy the kids and don't stress the little stuff . In your case rearrange ,cut down on dressers no TV and have fun with those adorsble looking kids . The bigger the fun space the better

Think about the extra furniture. Maybe you only need one nightstand. Can a dresser or the fridge go in the hallway, or in the closet? Don’t worry about switching to new beds. The toddler beds should last 4:or 5 more years.

If the TV is gone, that leaves room on top of the dresser for baskets for pullups or hair stuff or PJs or books or whatever else is taking up storage space.. Best wishes on two lovely girls.

Good advice already - gosh those girls are so dang cute!

in addition to what’s been said the room will be cozier and prettier without the large Tv

I agree they can share a dresser. The fridge will move along before you know it. I would not have a TV because I found my kids read so much more with no TVs in bedrooms. That's just a personal choice. You can prob do a nice little bookcase when the refrig leaves.
