You are having custom stools made and you are a tall person. Don’t base your measurements on what a crowdsource opinion says. Base it on your own size and comfort.

I’m a giraffe. I’m only 5’8 but my legs are as long as my Dad who is 6’1. I love a rung for my feet on a stool but my knees are often too high when I use them. I feel your pain!

How high is your counter going to be? How many inches off the floor will your stool seat be? Sit in a stool that has those measurements, then stack books on the floor to estimate a comfortable foot rung. Do these kind of experiments to see what customization works best for your body.

thanks, the counter surface is 36" above the floor. I doubt anyone in the family would use the foot rung, it would be for short people who come to visit :)

Then I’d skip the rung. Nice to think about making guests comfortable but you’ll be using these all the time, design them for you.

Skip the rung but be prepared for scuff marks on the back wall.
