I've been babying along a Fothergilla 'Legend of the Fall', sent as a very small plant 3 years ago, that's taken a long time to kick in. Last year it finally started to put out some good growth and turned a gorgeous fall color. This year it I was expecting a lot of growth and it was showing lots of small leaf buds just as the terrible freeze (upper teens) that followed 10 days of summer temps hit. I posted about the damage to a number of my other plants, all of which have recovered except for 2 epimediums that have put up no new growth. But back to the Fothergilla--the leaf buds haven't grown at all and are probably dead. I'm devastated. It's in a prominent spot in my landscaping and I've been craving that fall display.

Will it put out new buds and live or not? Of course, I'll know myself eventually, but I'm hoping someone more familiar with fothergillas can give me some hope.
