Linear lighting was trending at the same time as the "Modern farmhouse" style.

I never liked them as they remind me of lights that should go over a pool table!

Not all linear lights are the same, so you would get better feedback by showing the table, light and room they are all going in.

The room is mostly being redone. Here is the mood board I put together including the linear and the round options.
The linear is 20” wide x 55”
The round is 40” although other are lots of options similar so I’m not stuck to that one
The table is 44” wide by 82” long with two additional leaves.
Ceiling height is 11”

I agree, lots of linear pendants just look forced. I think yours above is elegant and sculptural looking- I like it much more than the round crystal drum thing.

Linear chandeliers are the preferred choice for long dining tables like yours (especially 82" to 122"). A 54" linear chandelier is a very good proportion for your table at both 82" and 102" lengths; it will anchor the space beautifully without looking too heavy or too small.

Designers still work with round chandeliers because they tend to concentrate light in the center; the edges of a long table might be dim which creates a centralized focal point instead of emphasizing the table’s length.

Keep an open mind while you're shopping — there are so many beautiful designs now that play with shape, material, and scale in creative ways.
