Revamp storage cupboard

We moved into a property with a large white vinyl storage cupboard. We need the storage unit and don't have funds to replace it. So I need ideas of making it look nicer as I hate the plane white look. In the picture you can see the fireplace has wallpaper which we going to paint dark wine red. And the white around fire place is going to be covered with wood. The rug will also be replaced.

Polished chrome knobs to match the fireplace insert. Add another shelf in to the open space and display nice pottery or something.

I would not paint the FP wall red… I’d look to do a softer, lighter color. Match the rest of the walls…
Definitely add hardware to the cabinets.
A new rug will be great too!!

You could paint it. Or you could replace the doors. If you're handy, you could replace them with some handsome plywood that would also be paintable.
