Kitchen Cabinet paint color

I bought new kitchen appliances that are matte white. They look terrible with my off white cabinets. Considering that I have a lot of light from the door wall and the wall color is also light, I thought Sherwin Williams Sawdust might work? I painted two doors to get an idea of how it would look. Do you like it?
Do you have any other suggestions? Please help, I can’t get this wrong!

The white appliances are what is wrong. They are a cold blue white, and matching anything warm with them inevitably clashes or makes it look yellow. That type of cold white only looks good with cool colors, like light gray cabinets, and overall cold color schemes. They don't look good with any woods, unless it's a cool toned stained walnut type. You either have to move to a cold color scheme for the home, or swap out the appliances for stainless. Stainless works in every kitchen because it reflects it's surroundings.

No, that color doesnt go well. You might try a sample of SW Cityscape. It goes very nicely with white appliances.

they are old style cabinets ...no base drawers..... partial overlay etc. I dont mind the cream w the white appliances. If you swapped out some of the dark and bronze accesories for white canisters.... utensil holders etc I think it would be fine. I would be looking forward to the time in the future to get new cabinets.....what is the kitchen ' s size and condition overall ?. if a renovation is absolutely not in the cards for a while you can have the frames painted or refaced [more costly] and get NEW FULL OVERLAY doors [an upgrade] same style or shaker ....in primed mdf and get them painted or take the provider's standard white .....issue dealt with, if you must.

We will probably be selling in the next few years so don't want to replace the cabinets. I really don't like the
Matte color with current cabinet color. Was hoping a tan/green paint would match the floor and kitchen counters?

All new appliances will count significantly. I would really leave the cabinets alone if you are a few years from moving. I think it looks pretty good actually. the hardwood floor throughout is a strong feature.

    I’d try blue

That color is pretty, but does not coordinate with my countertops at all. That's why I was looking for a beige or green.

Also this is the fabric color on my kitchen chairs which is adjoining to the kitchen itself.

SW ACCESIBLE BEIGE OR SW MALIBAR

    This is MALIBAR

That is a pretty color but I think it's a "warm" color. The first commenter said I needed to use a "cool" color. Any

Paint different colors on poster board and tape up on cabinets.

I have done all that. I bought more "samplize" samples than I care to admit. I landed on this or Favorite Tan

You need to replace the counters too. They also clash with the white appliances. The whole thing is that the appliances need to be replaced, or everything else does. Pick your (expensive) poison.

Different than what I was told by consultant. I can't replace the countertops or return the appliances.

Miranda do you have any suggestions for paint colors that might work the best?

The blue goes great with your countertops , in my opinion

I hadnt seen your counters when I mentioned SW City Scape, which is a gray. Obviously, that color wont work with the counters. You may be better off, to leave the cream colored cabinets you had originally, and add some accessories, in a pretty aqua, green, or blue. It appears your walls are also the color of your cabinets. Colored accessories, will brighten it up and add a lot.

I would paint the cabinets the same white as your appliances and replace all the pulls for brass.

No chance that you can pull this together without ditching almost everything in the kitchen. Green will not work. A cool gray blue will, but not with those counters, or anything else.

Have you tested neutrals with a green undertone like Honed Soapstone or Chatroom?

I have not but will definitely check that out. Thank you for the helpful advice

One other color that I would test is from a company that was bought out, but you can get the colors through Benjamin Moore.

Jennifer- I had a knot in my stomach that my new appliances were making everything else wrong.
Thank you for giving me hope that I can make this work.

It looks like you have a small kitchen. I don't think a dark colour on your cabinets with the dark countertops you have would work. If you can post more pictures showing the entire kitchen that would help with suggestions.

Question: what is the colour of your walls? in some picture they look pale yellow while in other they look like a warm white.

The walls are Sherwin Williams color called "Creamy."

Oh! everything looks so much lighter in these last pictures. Lovely kitchen!

Thank you. With the door wall right there, I do get a lot of natural light.

The yellow whites obviously make the appliances look blue, and the blue white of the appliances really make the walls and cabinets look butter yellow. I'm sure you can fix this, as yellow, white, and charcoal is a classic combo, but not with the existing countertops in the picture. Spend the 10K to change the counters out to a cool mixed white, rather than spending it on having the cabinets professionally painted. That will echo the cool white appliances, all around the room.

We don't intend to be here more than a couple years. We will paint the cupboards ourselves, I'm just trying to find a paint color that will work the best with the matte white appliances.

The color you chose seems to match, but is too dark. Try tom

research that color wave but much much lighter and will be fine with the appliances.

The pictures of the kitchen you posted, look very nice, I think. I dont see any blue white in your appliances. I would leave it just like it is.

Take a look at BM's Revere Pewter, it might work with your walls and countertop. Lighter than your test colour but darker than what you presently have.

Dont paint the cabinets. They coordinate nicely with the walls and counters. The issue is the appliances, which you can ignore until resale, and then replace them then, with used stainless, from Marketplace.

Also, unless you go through all the weeks of cleaning, sanding, and priming prep, you will get a job guaranteed to be chipped and awful looking right as your timetable to sell happens. You also would need to spray a professional cabinet coating, not trim paint. That is why pros cost 10-15K. A bad DIY cabinet painting job just devalues your home.

@Renee Bergmooser - I started my color journey when I was told by a designer that the only option I had was to replace my tile floors (1800 sf of tile). I have painted art as a hobby since I was a kid and knew that there had to be a less expensive answer. .

In my case I had pink undertones in the tile, maple cabinets (yellow). I used a deep red wall paint in the kitchen and the cabinets popped and the floor no longer appeared pink.

In your case you have the multitoned countertops and the creamy yellow walls with stark white appliances.

You need to find a color that works with the counters and the yellow walls and the white appliance that can provide enough separation between the white appliances and the yellow walls and still work with your counter.

Painting the cabinets will provide that separation and there will be a green gray that will work with the counter and will complement both the yellow and the white.

See how this artist used gray blue and gray green to make the creamy an bright white flowers work together.

There is no reason to spend thousands replacing the counter or the cabinets. Keep your money in your pocket and use it to fix up the next home.

Jennifer- thank you for giving me hope. I agree there has to be a neutral color that will work .

I painted two doors to get an idea of how it would look.

Well, at least you made a decision, now you just have to find a color.

Looks like the cabs are more colorful, darker than the Creamy walls?

I love SW's Creamy. Using it on the cabs to match the walls would edit the number of colors in the space which would help because with the high contrast of the new white, there's a lot going on. And it might help blend/bridge the difference between the dark counter tops and new appliances.

Then intentionally add cream and white decor to repeat the Creamy and white appliances.

You can absolutely mix white and cream in a kitchen.

Here's a great blog post on the subject, maybe you can get some ideas from it:

The taupe colors that Jen posted look very nice, and could work with the white and granite counter tops. You just need to find the right one.

Using Jennifer’s floral picture above, why not look at SW Evergreen Fog?
