Exterior detail questions...

This house is stunning and I love the exterior details. The shorter parapet walls with wire railing (for code) help achieve the look of a house built a 100 years ago. I really like the contrasting flashing details on the windows, doors, rafters, etc.

I saw that the shingles are stained Western red cedar. Is this for easier maintenance vs paint? What other material choices were chosen for surviving the coastal environment? Trim material? Decking?

Thank you so much!

All the decking is ipe wood which requires no maintenance. The trim is Azek and the siding is two coats of Benjamin Moore stain. It does require some maintenance, but it adheres much better than paint.
