Our front door needs staining. West facing Florida home.

This door gets very hot and needs staining or painting. there are sidelights also, We think painting it would be better. we have a storm door that covers most of the door. should we keep the same color as house? contrasting? it is painted with Sherwin Williams Concord

Buff and the ’bands’ and trim are Dover White.

I have no idea why a storm door in a covered entry I live in Canada we rarely use them even here . The door is loveley the storm door makes the real door ugly .Taht door is awesome and IMO the advice about refinishing often is the best and really white would make it look incredibly cheap and works with nothing I can see . If paint then go dark lik e the drk gray but really the door suits the wood

I would paint the whole thing white, including the storm door.

personally, the returns on the transome and the doorway too... will reflect the natural light into the interior of the house. Prime first with a high adhesive primer like KILZ®

You have to paint the storm door and the front door the same color. So no stain.

I assume you meant SW 7684Concord Buff. The webpage shows SW 6385 Dover White as a Coordinating Color. Maybe you could try that.

I also would paint it all white. The storm door and the door color clash right now, and I dont see anything on the house that the storm door matches, so paint it all the same color.

You rarely see a storm door in my area of FL, specially on the front door.

Our large front door and side lites are made of wood and face west. We have a 10 ft deep from porch, but the doors still get plenty of sun. These doors need regular maintenance every few years to keep the doors looking new. We had ours done a few months ago. Same company that made the doors will come out for maintenance . They did a light sanding and a couple of new protective coats. If you leave the doors go for too long, then they would need to sand down to bare wood, maybe do repairs, re-stain and re-seal.

If you don't want to regularly schedule and pay to maintain a wood door (it wasn't cheap), then you might want to consider replacing the door unit with something more heat resistant and maintenance free.

I would paint the storm door the same colour as the door.

As to a suggestion for colour, you need to show pictures of the entire front of the house.

Thanks for the advice. the professional maintenance would have been good idea…Ive looked into having it refinished. I like the idea of the storm door matching but Painting the storm door sounds like chipping and peeling.
