Why are you changing the countertop? What color are the cabinets? Green or Gray?

I would leave the countertops and backsplash and paint the Antique white walls.

Yes, i will definetly update the cabinet hardware The countertops are Ubatuba which I thought were outdated The only backsplash is behind the stove. The caninets are a green grey that match the dining room walls.

This picture is the entrance to the kitchen. You can see the entry to the dining room next to the stove and where it is open to the living room over the sink. The area on the otherside of the island is just a breakfast room that goes into a sun room.

Yes, it is an odd layout. I hope to enclose the refrigerator because I agree that it doesn't look finished.

What problem are you trying to solve? Is this a new-to-you house? The cabinets and counters are fine and look good together. I love the green tones in Uba Tuba. Don’t worry about it being outdated— it’s much less ubiquitous now than 20 years ago. Save your money for a major Reno— that layout looks awkward and inefficient.

What is the history of that kitchen? It was recently painted. Were the cabinets wood or white originally? It seems to be a 'pass through' kitchen vs a defined room. Someone turned this into an open concept and lost a good chunk of cupboards or an island or something. That cabinet color was a mistake. If I were to change anything in that kitchen it would be that. If your counters are in good condition there's no reason to fill a landfill because someone decided they needed to sell a new product and deem yours 'outdated'! If you don't care for black just say so. Don't blame the fads that come and go!! If you are looking for a quick refresh white paint would be a better use of your money. As to a back splash the two inch counter match should be fairly easy to pop off. I might go with what's behind the stove or the same tile with less color variations just to tone it down a bit. It might get to be too much.

I do not like the counters and would change those out. I think a lighter countertop with veins of the cabinet colour IF you like the cabinet colour will change the whole feel of the room. To me the black creates a solid horizontal line across the room which accentuates the shape of the kitchen. IF you intend to redo the cabinets in the next 5 years I would not do anything and save up for the renovation.

I like the current counter color. It works well with you cabinet color, which I like. But, if you need a change, find a creamy, slightly off white Corian for the counters. Color match a wall paint color to the counters.

Get a slightly larger island. Your current one is too small and the scale throws off the feel of the room. Have one made with garbage in it. Lots of people on Esty make custom islands.

Replace your rugs with solid ones that blend better with the floor.

Do you like the counter height table and chairs? I don't love the look in the space. I'd remove the blinds to the sunroom.

IMO this is aperfect example of lipstick on a pig if the plan is to change the counters and back splash since neither will make this space better . I love Uba Tuba granite is has life in it and depth that will never happen with fake stone for sure The kitchen is not well planned so stop and wait until such time as you can do it right , the cabinets are dated , the island is just silly and I agree someone decided this space needed to opened up but not in a good way. As for wall color hat cn be changed easily if a bit of a new to you plan is wanted. Any time you need to apss the range to go from fridge to sink is poor planning .

Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions. We purchased the house in 2003 shortly after it was built. The original house plans had a side garage coming into the kitchen, but due to the land, this was moved to the basement, leaving this awkward space in the kitchen. I do want to reface the cabinets but I am struggling with a color. The current color matches the dining room walls. I also had one wall painted in the kitchen the same color since it was too stark with just the off-white.

Would refacing the cabinets, and adding cabinets around the refrigerator with new hardware and cream backsplash be worth the money? Maybe the money saved on the countertop can go toward a bigger island. The island size never crossed my mind as we purchased years ago just for additional countertop space so thank you for that suggestion.

Aesthetically I think it is fine. I wouldn’t spend ANY money fiddling with the aesthetics.

For layout, hard to change it much. The fridge wall is essentially a walkway, so can’t put sink or range there. Swap range and sink maybe, to put the sink closer to the fridge, and close up that silly wall opening at the sink. Resist any temptation to put sink or range where the island is.

This kitchen has been squeezed into a small space that isn’t even its own space - more of a passageway - so tough to do much.

Needs more workspace, more storage. I’d build cabinets on the bare side of the fridge and above it, get a larger island with storage, drawers in the lower, and call it good.
