Waterproofing Coat in W1 Washer

I want to re-waterproof a winter coat, and I bought a recommended waterproofing kit. I am glad to see that my Miele W1 has a specific proofing setting. Has anyone here used it? I am just not clear where I put in the Water Repellent ("DWR") for this proofing setting. The Miele instruction manual just describes what the proofing setting does but not anything about the application of the DWR. Looking online, some people put it in the fabric softener tray, some in the detergent tray, and some throw it onto the clothes in the drum and then turn on the machine.

I also read a comment that someone said it works better not to use the proofing setting, but instead use the Soak setting on the Delicates cycle and set it to 60-minute soak so that the DWR can really penetrate.

Hoping someone here has used the Miele proofing setting or the soak setting to successfully waterproof, and can advise. Thanks.

There are no instructions included with the kit?

Softener dispenses in the final rinse, which probably doesn't provide sufficient exposure time of the product to the coat.

@dadoes I agree about the softener dispenser which is one reason for my confusion. The instructions say "Select Delicate cycle and warm water. Add 1 oz/30 ml per garment in the final rinse or to the fabric softener dispenser. Start cycle. Or SOAK: Add 1 oz/30 ml per garment to warm water. Submerge item and soak for 10 minutes. Do not rinse. Tumble dry on medium heat."

Online comments say a longer soak is needed. There are no instructions regarding a washer that has a specific proofing setting like the Miele W1. Perhaps the proofing setting in the Miele allows for the fabric softener tray to dispense sooner? The Miele Instruction Manual says nothing about how to use the proofing setting; only that there is a proofing setting to waterproof garments and where to find it in the menu.

Perhaps the product instructions referencing using a softener dispenser is on point that there are no further rinses/water changes so the product remains in the garment other than what is extracted during spin.

Maybe run the proofing cycle empty of clothing, observe the functioning and interpret that into the product instructions.

Dunno if this is right but I went with the fabric softener compartment. Miele makes a proofing product in those cap dose packs that go in there, so I reasoned that even though I used Nikwax that should work.
