Cannot say I have seen polymeric sand used interior to often. Why not grout?

Gonna be an even bigger hot mess using sand. Needs mortar. And needed a heck of a lot more of a mortar bed than that. Looks like they used maybe a 3/8 trowel, tops. And over some thinass redguard too. Complete disaster install.

Start over with a different installer. And check the deflection rating of that assembly.

We used mortar and a large trowel. we cleaned up around it at the end of the day which is why it looks thin. Trust me its installed very well.
