Patio expansion & update

Hi! We’ve expanded our back patio and want to make it look more cohesive with the house but I'm struggling since our home doesnt really have a clear style - midcentury ranch cottage :) see pics!

We’re planning to do cement coating over the full patio to make it cohesive and look as close to the beige tile pic as possible.

What should we do with the railing? sand & refinish in black? build painted wood railing to match the front?

The stairs are pretty steep so i think we need something

I do not know why you would put cement over attactive, natural stones. Cement is never going to look like tile. It's going to look like you couldn't afford anything like stone. It's a pale stone, it looks great with the house. It will look like your steps, not like expensive tile.

I'd paint the railing black, too.

Is the 1st photo the back of your house and are the 2nd & 3rd photos inspiration photos?

Please add a photo straight on that shows the house, upper patio (is this concrete?), steps and lower patio (is this the new patio you reference?)

The stairs likely need a railing to meet code and for safety. One option to make the upper and lower patios more cohesive is to remove some of the tall bushes and to widen the steps. Need more photos to determine.

First and third photo is back of the house. The patio is cement (not stone) but we have a short stone wall around the top patio area.

second photo is how i would like to finish the patio flooring because right now it is old painted cement & new cement on the low side.

It looks like the railing isn't installed on the extended part of your patio. I would do both railings in the same style or on the patio side you can do glass panels instead of balusters.

Amazing - so helpful to see a mockup! i was planning to put bushes around the lower patio but this does look cohesive. feels a little intense with the black though since we currently dont have any on out house - all cream, stone, and greys

Just saw you posted extra pictures of the front of the house with another style railing. That can work as well.
