I've never used curtains in the houses that had/have side lights. Do you need privacy and/or sun/heat control?

You can get glass etching companies that come out and do a pattern of your choice on the glass, to obscure some of the view. My parents have done that before. It is permanent.

I had sidelights in another home that needed sun control three months of the year. I used small tension rods bought on line.

The "window" next to the door is actually a "sidelite" and would be a part of the door assembly and is actually a door blank that is cut down to size and glazed. Just want to make the distinction that we are talking about the same thing.

If the door slab is steel, first question, there are rare earth magnets that will attach to the door without having to drill holes in it that can then have small curtain rods attached to it for privacy. That, or suction cups, are the two options to that allow you to hang a curtain from the door without damaging it.

We need a clearer better lighted photo but this is the hardware we always had growing up. The bracket is only an inch wide.

The tension rods are very bulky, suction cups don't stick, and magnets require overlapping the curtains. What I've done on a sidelite is drill an 1/8" hole on either side of the plastic frame and use 1/8" cold rolled steel rod for about $3.
